TOPICS: General Discusssion; Theology
KEYWORDS: lds; mormon
Im interested in openly discussing the origins, theology and doctrine of this LDS document.

As with the new thread designations, open threads allow the following:

Open threads are a town square – posters may argue for or against beliefs of any kind.

They may tear down other's beliefs. They may ridicule, similar to the Smoky Backroom with the exception that a poster must never “make it personal.” Reading minds and attributing motives are forms of “making it personal.” Thin-skinned posters will be booted from “open” threads because in the town square, they are the disrupters.

Lets strive for civility though - I worry our zeal and passion is poor witness on occasion

I don’t think it’s allowed to be both (LDS) and (OPEN). Doesn’t it have to be one or the other?

my understanding was that if it had a designation which excluded or limited participation we were allowed to post it as an open as well

I look to the mod to see if I recollect that properly

additionally, while that thread proselytizes, this thread looks at it doctrinally and theologically, so the only similarity is the linked content

Do we have anything to go on that this was the case other than that Joseph Smith said so?

I’m not sure either. Thanks for your kind response, Rev. I’m not trying to be picayunish. It just seems that one says “This is limited to polite LDS discussion...an in-house kind of thing.”

The other says, “This is a free-for-all, no holds barred, biting permitted.” :>)

Really what is there to discuss? The only question is was Joseph Smith a fraud? I believe so. Trotting out his fraudulent writings does nothing to illuminate that question.

If, according to Mormon doctrine, God was once a man; then how did God create man? Time travel?

The very same article must not be reposted with a different designation. Instead, you must use a similar article with a different source.

This thread will be locked.

There is no offense in a poster self-identifying any type of RF thread as "LDS" or "Catholic" etc.

But if the poster is not a member of that confession - or worse, is "anti" that confession - then posting an "open" thread with the additional tag can be read as a flame war provocation both by other posters and moderators.

So the additional tag should not be used unless it is absolutely necessary to convey what the thread is about.
