“Sententious stuff; but one thing that’s always irked me about Christianity is the widespread notion that the Almighty can be manipulated like some sort of natural phenomenon, simply by using the correct kind of incantation.”

It’s not proper to say “Christianity” universally includes all these beliefs.

But your point is true. What these people will say is that they are not “manipulating” God, but that God has singled them out for healing. To you and I it’s a distinction without a difference, but not to them.

I am unfortunate enough to know about this false teaching within my own family. These folks are as stubborn as they are misguided.

So let me get this straight, God flips a coin and decides who gets healed? Or, has a limited number of miracles/healings per day? Jesus healed all that came to him in faith, as a matter of fact, he told them, “thy faith hath made the whole”. It also tells us that because of doubt and lack of faith, He could do no miracles in His home town. My point being, as I have grown from my southern baptist upbringing, I have searched scripture for myself on a daily basis and I see over and over that God's plan for man (the Garden of Eden and heaven as examples of God's perfect will)was health, abundance and a good life BUT when Adam turned his birthright over to Satan, mankind lost that plan. Christ came and defeated Satan and therefore, the curse has no power over me UNLESS I fail to exercise my authority as a believer. Christ paid the cost 2,000 years ago for my health and abundance today. Say what you want but I am living proof that this life is for today not because I deserve it but because Christ paid the price and I am claiming those promises and seeking the Father daily and walking in His Word. I am blessed to be a blessing. Try it, you'll LOVE it. I don't subscribe to all of the so-called prosperity ministries but don't throw out the baby with the bath water my friends. God has a wonderful life for each of us and it is available TODAY. You can choose to live a life of lack and disease if you wish but NOT me. I have experienced His touch in my health and in my finances and will never go back to the bad old days. TOUCHE’
