The Rockford, Illinois diocese will not send seminarians to St. Mary of the Lake, Mundelein for training. Two upperclassmen propositioned a Rockford youth for homosexual favors. So much for the change that has been promised in archdiocesan public relations pronouncements.
Thus the Rockford diocese has decided it is finished with Mundelein....
Kicanas.
The man who ran St. Mary of the Lake Seminary, Mundelein when it was a hot-house of homosexual excess and who was quoted in the Sun-Times as saying he does not regret ordaining Fr. Dan McCormack, who is now serving time for child abuse is second in command of the U. S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. He is Gerald Kicanas, now bishop of Tucson, having been promoted from Mundelein (as were all others who ran the dissolute institution) to auxiliary bishop of Chicago and then to Tucson. In Tucson, Kicanas led Tucson through the filing of Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization to the point where he ponied up $22 million in settlement for victims of priest child abuse....
Kicanas is slated to become the next president of the U. S. Catholic Conference of Bishops. If there is any justice at all, his automatic election should be greeted with grassroots opposition
not that it will make any difference with an organization that meets in a marble palace and has a huge roundtable with every bishop fortified with microphone based on the UN Security Council....

Catholic ping!
We definitely need to keep the heat on, as you can see the steps taken are bearing fruit, in the past if a young seminarian “told” he was often ignored and since most knew they would be ignored they didn’t often tell.
Kudos that they did something about it.
Education and awareness is key
The Rockford Diocese is brimming with priestly vocations. Part of the reason is because the Diocese takes formation and orthodoxy more seriously. I am proud to be in the Rockford diocese.

Sounds like you are also blessed to be in that diocese.
I knew an innocent Benedictine nun, a wonderful woman and close friend, who was sadly (intellectually and spiritually) corrupted at Mundelein by Matthew Fox, who was then doing his Creation Spirituality thing on campus, anti-indoctrinating nuns and seminarieans and DRE's and assorted Wee people. Fox is long gone but evidently Mundelein still has the Wee Whee's.
Just the other day I was moaning to my husband that we U.S. Catholics don't have any leader who instructs, inspires, and sounds the tocsin to rally us in times of challenge and danger. He asked me who'd have that position in an institutional sense, ex officio so to speak. I answered that it would probably be the president of the USCCB or perhaps the Archbishop of Washington.
In those posts, it seems the best we can hope for would be nonentities. But no, we can't even hope for that. What we've got is (in Hopkins' phrase) "the sots and thralls of lust."
Yes, they existed in Hopkins' time, too. But were they invariably at the top?
Lord, help us.

God bless Bishop Doran and all of the above. They are the true Church.
And God bless and keep Mother Angelica, who despite the opposition of the American Bishops, persisted in founding her network, EWTN. Therein has the truth been preserved for these past three decades!
Wuerl, enough said.
the president of the USCCB
Cardinal George. He has already done a lot, but he started with a real mess of an archdiocese and still has a long way to go.
What we need, IMHO, are relatively young, orthodox, holy bishops who are willing to shine the light of truth on the remaining rodents and vermin in the priesthood (with the Pope's support), preach the Gospel in and out of season and be accessible for their flocks - including priests and seminarians.
Good for them! It's about time!
I know a priest in the Archdiocese of Seattle and he had his formation at Mundelein and didn’t notice this problem (and he is uncompromisingly Orthodox). Also, I know the Moral Theology Professor there, and his credentials are darn good. I will always remember and cherish the verbal whipping he gave some pro-homosexuality “Catholics” at an Education event I organized.
Or both seminarians, the one who told and the one who he told on would be kicked out. Sometimes just the one who told.
Should qualify I don’t know the situation at Mundelein, just speaking of seminaries in general and in the past. Actually I have heard that Mundelein is getting better as, I believe are other seminaries. It takes time and it isn’t easy to negotiate decades of corrupt appointments and flawed ordinations.
