I have just spent the last month in Spain, which once upon a time was bursting with children. Now, as usual, the only people who have children there are the Muslim immigrants. And Spanish young people, like those here, decide not to have children but to have dogs and second homes.

So you have the bizarre spectacle of a young couple cooing over a dog, depopulated villages surrounded by large second homes and condos owned by these young people (presumably for their dog), and newspapers reflecting a growing panic about the future. And as you have said, this is indeed accompanied by a major push for euthanasia. It all goes together so inevitably.

This same scenario is being played out in most of the western world. It's only a matter of time before the US birth rate drops below population replacement.

And the Socialist government there just got returned to power by “frightening” younger voters with the threat of Catholic opposition to abortion, homosexuality, and cultural degeneration. It seems the only pregnant female worth highlighting was the nation's female defense minister, who was shown reviewing the troops with her belly protruding at about seven months gestation. The idiot Socialist leader bragged that that photo would show the world that Spain is a leader in gender equality. Yeah, that really terrified al-Qaeda, I'm sure.

We met with a lady last night about daycare (we are having our first, and my wife needs to at least finish out the school year), whose daughter lives in San Francisco. She says that there are dog food bowls outside of every restaurant.

At first I thought “Cool!”. We have a Carin terrier, and really enjoy our dog. But, when I thought about it, I realized that most people in that town don't have kids, they have dogs. I love dogs, and hope to have at least one the rest of my life, but a dog is not a kid.

But to many people they are becoming their kids.
