This may be a stupid question, but I am not a Christian.

Did any of the apostles die before Jesus?

Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Christ, hung himself and presumably died a few hours before Jesus did.

No question is ever stupid. Yes, there were many prophets and teachers of the Jewish faith that died before the Twelve Apostles did.

As others have mentioned, Judas Iscariot hung himself after trying unsuccessfully to return the 30 pieces of silver. The New Testament states that satan entered into Judas during the Last Supper - but understand that Judas had a choice and he succumbed to satan.

Luke 22:3-6

Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. They were delighted and agreed to give him money. He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.

John 13:27

As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. "What you are about to do, do quickly," Jesus told him.

Judas finally realized he'd just sold out the innocent Jesus to a horrible death, but it was too late to change things. There are all kinds of guesses, things like Judas was a revolutionary wanting God's Kingdom to come and by forcing Jesus's hand by threat of death, Jesus, the miracle worker, would have to do something. Nonsense, and we'll never know in this life what was going on.
