Bishops To Take On Pro-Abort Pols
The last few weeks the Bishops of the U.S. have displayed a refreshing and somewhat astounding amount of backbone in confronting prominent pro-abort Catholic politicians over their clear efforts to obfuscate clear logic and teaching on abortion.
It seems that this maybe the beginning of a blessed trend. The Administrative Committee of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops said the full body of U.S. bishops will discuss the practical and pastoral implications of political support for abortion during their annual assembly, November 10-13, in Baltimore.

This has been a most welcome turn of events. Maybe weeding out the chaff in the wake of the homosexual priest sex abuse mess has restored the courage and confidence of the heirarchy. The local bishop here, Mr. Chaput, has been particularly outspoken and I commend him for it.

I’m still scratching my head here.
What was the last straw that has convinced so many liberal prelates (usually of their own, personal volition) to publicly threaten to refuse the sacrament to pro-abortion pols?
I’d like to think it was their faith, but experience in the ways of the world leads me to suspect sheer, self-interest.

Id like to think it was their faith, but experience in the ways of the world leads me to suspect sheer, self-interest.I believe it was Pope Benedict XVI's visit in April. Also, there is strength in numbers. All they needed was for a few good Archbishops and Bishops to step up. Not only that but the layity has been very vocal thru phone calls and emails to their priests and bishops. The ultimate reason is it is the Holy Spirit working.

Perhaps you have not seen this list from American Papist. It applies to Pelosi, but is equally applicable to Biden. The Bishops ARE speaking out!! May God bless them one and all.

Notes:
-
Previous #23 has been removed. Bishop Joseph Gossman of Raleigh, NC is actually the bishop emeritus, and the new bishop, Michael Burbidge has not, to my knowledge, made a personal statement.
-
Previous #16 has also been removed, it was an erroneous duplication of current #13.
-
#26 was added September 10th, although he published his column September 6th

Cardinal Sean O'Malley of Boston mentions the USCCB on his blog I'm not even sure this should be listed with the others -- "on his blog"??? Tucked away on the archdiocesan website, where none but his fans (should there be such) will ever see it.

Perhaps those from his Archdiocese can encourage him to come out with a public statement to be sent to all parishes so that it can get out to the residents of Mass.
Can you imagine Mass. going Republican? What a miracle!

Thank goodness for Bishop Lori, the rest of the ‘Catholic’ bishops of ‘Catholic’ New England are very quiet on this issue.

I also imagine that Apb Neiderauer’s proposed “conversation” with Nancy Pelosi will occur only after the election. He just suggested it to get himself off the hook. I’m sure Nancy is still sailing down the aisle to Communion - and still defending abortion.

A little late. Exactly. In the end analysis, our mamby pamby bishops won't do squat. That has been their pattern for the last 30-40 years. They will restate the Church's teaching, but will do nothing to enforce it or to recommend punitive actions.
