Old St. Pat's (Oldest Catholic Church in Kansas City, MO) Consecration Pics (Catholic Caucus)

Don't forget to see part one and Bishop Robert Finn's homily from the consecration of Old Saint Patrick Oratory in Kansas City. As opposed to the pic dump you see here, Kansas Catholic will be posting pics methodically and actually explaining them. So check back there often. Saint Louis Catholic has a list of other sites with pics. He also announces that St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis, whose choir came to sing at the St. Pat's consecration, will be hosting all-day Adoration on Election Day.

Kansas City has the world's tallest bishop. Here, actually, Bishop Finn climbs a ladder to anoint the twelve crosses on the wall in the church. The imagery is from Revelation, where John describes the Wall of the Great City, Jerusalem, having 12 foundations - the 12 Apostles.

Bishop Finn is censed - not sure if that's the right term.

Elevation of the chalice.

A view of the remarkable restoration.

Awesome... is the Latin mass performed at this church?

Great pictures! This consecration also featured a ceremony with sand that I had never seen before. It was done in the pre-1962 missal, of course, and involved making a large X with sand and inscribing all the letters of the Latin and Greek alphabets in the sand. It was to symbolize the universality of the Church.

Yes. The “Gregorian rite,” better known as the Traditional Latin Mass, is offered every day, and the parish is adminstered by the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest.

Yes, that’s what it’s for - in fact, you will see it in about the 3rd photo down.

Incidentally, in the old days, the consecration of a church was considered such a complicated ceremony (with the bishop climbing up and down the ladders to annoint the walls, etc.) that the church was frequently closed for the event and lay people did not attend.
