Have Any of These 301 Bishops Gone
by Deal W. Hudson
10/31/08

I am asking one last time: Have any of these 301 bishops spoken out to defend the Church teaching or on the primacy of life issues in the coming election?

(I have removed the names of those bishops who were part of the statements issued by the Catholic conferences of New York State, Florida, Kansas, and Pennsylvania.)

If there are more homilies, interviews, or press releases that have not gotten exposure outside their diocese, I would appreciate knowing about them. You can list them in the comments section. This will help us to create as comprehensive a list as possible.

Thus far, over 115 bishops have gone "on the record," and among those are 75 ordinaries of the 197 dioceses and archdioceses in the United States.

This is a historical moment in the history of the Catholic Church and American politics – there has never been this level of public discussion by bishops about an election, not even close!

For your information. I must also apologize to one and all.

I thought the '197' number was bishops; from this article I just discovered that number represents diocese. Please forgive me for the incorrect information.

According to this latest list and the one I have of supporting bishops -- it appears approximately one-third have spoken out about life being the primary issue.

Any comments?

I think Mahony and Steinbocks are absolute duds and completely worthless. They both care more about immigration than life.

I am formerly from the L.A. Diocese and am currently in Steinbock’s Fresno Diocese, and I have kept my ear to my connections at both, and the silence from these two is deafening.

Also, I may be wrong on this, but I’m pretty sure that bishops that work with the military have their hands tied due to the military’s ban on politicking (sp?) by their members...

I am not Catholic, but I haven't heard a word out of this guy. The mayor of Fort Wayne is a Democrat and from a huge Catholic family here. I wonder if they worked together?

Over 100 Bishops Have Spoken Out on Priority of Life Issues
Posted on October 28, 2008, 11:59 AM | Deal W. Hudson
The list of U. S. bishops who have spoken out on the priority of the life issues in this election is now over 100. The list now contains 70 individual bishops and three joint statements.
I would like to continue updating this list until the day of the election. I have tried to incorporate all the comments thus far. If I dd not get them all, I apologize. (For a few of the suggestions, I could not find a suitable link.)
Please continue using the comments section to let us know what bishop is not on this list who should be. This would include any bishop who has individually, or jointly, published a statement about this election pointing out the primacy of the life issues.
Thank you for your help.

Too little, too late, and all toothless words. Almost every one of these bishops would gladly offer the Holy Eucharist to Ted Kennedy or any other abortacrat.

Empty words.

Yup. Most bishops only recently started to do barely half of what they should have been doing all along. I heard anti-bama Catholic PA voters were barely more numerous than pro-bama PA Catholic voters. I hope that’s not true...but with the shameful lack of discipline used to teach the simple beliefs of the Church when it comes to the subject of baby butchery, I can believe it.
