Not easy.

Yours is a typical cop out response by one who wants his 24/7 access to prurience, no matter how it is unraveling values and the backbone of our society.

The sleazy stuff is ubiquitous and unavoidable now. Last time I looked, malls were supposed to be family-friendly, not packaged for the seedier appetites.

Do you suggest kids get corralled Taliban-style— to tight little enclaves of existence ( only walk by churches Cathedrals..etc) so the underbelly among us have their sleaze fix close at hand, anywhere, anytime?

Repulsive.

You don't know a damn thing about me, so don't make assumptions. It is not a 'cop out' to take one's children on an alternate route for the purpose of limiting their exposure to that prurience you're referring to. Give your head a shake and rethink what you just said.

What malls are you talking about? As for the sleaze, it is NOT unavoidable if one makes the effort to avoid or at least limit exposure to that sleaze, IF they're not too damn lazy to do so. In some cases I'm sure it's easier and the path of least resistance to just take the direct route, let the kids see whatever is out there, and then write or blog about how terrible it is.

No, if I were advocating a 'Taliban-style' society, I would advocate rounding up the sleazemeisters, both producers and consumers, for some good ol' fashioned eyeball burning with hot irons. What I am advocating is that if parents want to limit the exposure of their children to inappropriate materials, images, visuals, etc., that they're going to have to work harder and apply their own creativity a bit more than in the past. We live in a totally sexualized society. If adults want to indulge themselves in whatever fetish or kink they desire, that's their business. But it is the business of parents to do their level best to limit their kids from being exposed to that stuff any sooner than it is (regretfully) going to happen.

If that means walking a few extra steps, or even a few city blocks to avoid the sleaze that I think you are condemning, then so be it. If one is too lazy to make that effort, that is what is truly a "cop out".

Actually, considering how we worship the horrible little ones, it doesn’t sound like a bad idea.

Kids only zones. Leaves the rest of the world to adults.

I’m in, anyone else?
