Most Underrated Part of Inauguration
WORLD NET DAILY ^ | 1-26-09 | CHUCK NORRIS

Pre-inaugural chatter speculated what each of the ministers would say. Would the Rev. Rick Warren use the opportunity to pray against the maladies of abortion or homosexuality? Would he end his prayer in the nonpolitically correct and exclusive "in Jesus' name"? Would the Rev. Joseph Lowery resurrect a civil right spirit in his ecumenical prayer? Would he slide in a pro-gay comment within the final entreaty of the inauguration? (SNIP) ... just when you think the "amen" is imminent, Warren gives a coup de grace to any political or earthly power – a possible subversive chess move to subtly call Obama's regime into checkmate. He called upon the global Christian community to ...

Text of Pastor Rick Warren, Inauguration Invocation ...

Let us pray.

Almighty God, our Father, everything we see and everything we can’t see exists because of you alone. It all comes from you. It all belongs to you. It all exists for your glory.

History is your story. The Scripture tells us, “Hear O Israel, the Lord is our God. The Lord is One.” And you are the compassionate and merciful one. And you are loving to everyone you have made.

Now, today, we rejoice not only in America’s peaceful transfer of power for the 44th time. We celebrate a hingepoint of history with the inauguration of our first African American president of the United States. We are so grateful to live in this land, a land of unequaled possibility, where the son of an African immigrant can rise to the highest level of our leadership. And we know today that Dr. King and a great cloud of witnesses are shouting in heaven. Give to our new President, Barack Obama, the wisdom to lead us with humility, the courage to lead us with integrity, the compassion to lead us with generosity. Bless and protect him, his family, Vice President Biden, the cabinet, and every one of our freely elected leaders.

Help us, O God, to remember that we are Americans, united not by race, or religion, or blood, but to our commitment to freedom and justice for all. When we focus on ourselves, when we fight each other, when we forget you, forgive us. When we presume that our greatness and our prosperity is ours alone, forgive us. When we fail to treat our fellow human beings and all the earth with the respect that they deserve, forgive us. And as we face these difficult days ahead, may we have a new birth of clarity in our aims, responsibility in our actions, humility in our approaches, and civility in our attitudes, even when we differ.

Help us to share, to serve and to seek the common good of all. May all people of good will today join together to work for a more just, a more healthy and a more prosperous nation and a peaceful planet. And may we never forget that one day all nations and all people will stand accountable before you. We now commit our new president and his wife, Michelle and his daughters, Malia and Sasha, into your loving care.

I humbly ask this in the name of the one who changed my life, Yeshua, Isa, Jesus [Spanish pronunciation], Jesus, who taught us to pray:

“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

I was wondering how many comments it would take before a Warren Derangement Syndrome (WDS) poster showed up. It didn't take long.

Tell me, did you read or hear Warren's prayer or are you just slamming Rick Warren because it's the in thing to do among a certain group of uninformed Christians?

Read the prayer and point out the parts where Warren was trying to elevate himself. It's time to put up or shut up.

I’m getting a little tired of anytime somebody disagrees with somebody it’s now called “Derangement Syndrome”. I don’t like Rick Warren one little bit. I think he’s all about whatever is good for him. I’m certainly not “Deranged” about him. In fact I rarely even think about him.

I heard it, I read it, and I don’t believe that it was anything other than what I expect most days from the Right Reverend Rick.

Was a new commandment added somewhere that dictates I need to like, approve, and follow Mr. Warren? Last I checked I am free to enjoy and voice my opinion.

As for elevating himself - Mr. Warren has never said “Look how great I am” - people like him never do - but just because they don’t say it overtly doesn’t for a moment mean that isn’t their goal. He had an international stage and he jumped right in with political correctness rather than conviction. The other minister spoke his mind regardless of public opinion - Rick allowed himself to be edited, even censored, in order to get a place on the stage. It is my opinion that his goal was to be ‘inclusive’ rather than to stand before the world as a minister ordained by Christ. In so doing he placed himself above his calling - he placed ‘opportunity’ and ‘exposure’ over a righteous message and principal. Thus my opinion that Mr. Warren is more often about Mr. Warren than he is about Christ.

And by the by - standing in front of the world - with hundreds of millions (if not billions) of people watching, and quoting from the Koran - hardly a fitting testament of an evangelical minister to the One True God.

That Obama did not join in tells me what I have concluded about him is true: he —whatever else he is—is not a Christian.

[Pastor Warren includes The Lord's Prayer in his Inaugural invocation.]

That Obama did not join in tells me what I have concluded about him is true: he —whatever else he is—is not a Christian.

From the article:

"(It was interesting to watch how Obama chose not to publicly follow or join in.)"

Interesting? Yes, that went over like a bucket of ice. That was jarring. He didn't even bow his head. He held his head up and stuck his jaw out--in defiance?

I think he’s reading far more into this than was there. I saw the prayer as an uncomfortable meshing of evangelical speak and liberal “social justice” theology.

Plus, I hate it when someone “preaches” through their prayer.
