Ms Hemingway, who has designed vestments for George Carey, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, told the Express and Echo: "Women clergy have brought a fresh look to garments.

"They are not as willing to put up with dirty, worn-out robes. I think this has rubbed off on male clergy."

A nickel for your thoughts ... where does it go from here?

I visited a parish church in England that was built in the 12th century. My friend’s father helped install electric lights in it back in the 1950s. They still had no plumbing, but a rather nice perma-portapotty in the back.

They have a chasuble dating back to before the apostate Henry VIII, as well as a paten that he wasn’t able to steal, as he stole most of the rest of the gold from the churches.

At any rate, it’s no dirty worn out robe, that’s for sure.
