Fellay stated he supports ecumenical efforts insomuch as those efforts lead to non-Catholic Christians accepting Catholic doctrine and rejoining the Catholic Church. He also calls for more emphasis on evangelism, saying that Jews, Muslims, Hindus, etc need to be converted to Catholicism in order to be saved. On the one hand, he would have Christians of other churches converted to Catholicism through ecumenism and on the other hand he would have non-Christians converted to Catholicism through evangelization. In his mind, are Peter Akinola, Billy Graham and Nicky Gumble no different than the Dalai Lama? Given that the members of the Southern Baptist Convention are about as likely to accept Catholicism as Gene Robinson is likely to join Rick Warren’s church, how does Fellay propose for Rome to deal with the SBC and other groups that stand shoulder to shoulder with Rome in the fight against abortion, stem cell research, euthanasia, etc?
Yes, that is the Catholic teaching. Fellay did not invent it and the Church did not walk away from it.

You will have to ask Fellay that, but from what I understand, the difference is that the Christian leaders share the belief in Jesus and non-Chrisitan don't. So the first step in ecumenism is eradication of heresy, and the first step in evangelization is telling the gospel.

We can disagree on theology and even, with non-Christians, on divinity of Christ, and still collaborate on things we agree upon.
Again, you sound as if Fellay is saying something no one ever said before. Fellay is not proposing anything new.
he has been a roman catholic bishop, since 1988, however he has functioned without official Church approval
Pope John Paul II did not agree to make him bishop in 1988 and that’s why he got excomm’d. Need pope’s permission for being made a bishop
