Bishop Joseph F. Martino
Diocese of Scranton
300 Wyoming Avenue
Scranton, PA 18503

Dear Bishop Martino,

As far as I am aware, you are the only member of the Catholic Hierarchy in the United States who is now in compliance with Canon 915, inasmuch as you have not only sent letters of solemn admonition to Senator Bob Casey, but have also instructed all Ministers of the Eucharist to refrain from giving Holy Communion to those to whom this section of Canon Law applies.

Many of us have been praying for this for years. We, the laity, are scandalized by the brazenness of pro-abortion political communicants; we are also scandalized by the cravenness of sacrilege-tolerating bishops who endlessly temporize with these politicians.

If some politician favored a law which authorized the beheading and dismemberment of a very moderate number of Catholic bishops ~ annually ~ would the bishops say “We must engage in more pastoral dialogue about this”? Or ". . . but where does he stand on tax reform"?

I thank God for giving you the strength to do the right thing.

May Bob Casey return quickly to the truth.

Both you and he are in my prayers.

Gratefully, [signed]
