He authored the Contract With America.

And then he sold out. Did you fall asleep?

It is said that facts are stubborn things. I add that they are reserved for those who think. Try it someday.

Newt won the House. He did it with real beliefs.

How did he sell out? The Democrats came after him with all guns a-blazen’ and his Party and those in the House with him turned tail and ran from him. If I recall correctly it was after he led the revolution that produced Republican control of both houses of Congress that we had a balanced budget that led to a brief period of surpluses and the role of welfare was changed dramatically.

If he had been supported even half as much as Clinton was by his side of the aisle we would have a much different America than we do today.

This is nothing more than my personal opinion. I was a Newt supporter and followed his triumph and subsequent travails pretty closely. 99 percent of what I read about him now simply never happened. BS like the Contract was never carried through, etc.

I agree with you. Perhaps he holds some conservative beliefs, he did great with the Contract with America (although timing was probably good) and then the government shut down. I was cheering Newt during the staredown between him and Clinton. Newt blinked first. Just when he needed to be strong. It's an old story, some people are better at running For office than they are at holding office.
