I think they showed The Five Points of Fellowship:

I remember them saying:

“Health in the navel, marrow
in the bones, strength in the loins and sinews. Power in the
Priesthood be upon me, and upon my posterity through all
generations of time, and throughout all eternity.”

They also showed The Celestial Room.

“has been” or “will”? Did I see you do bait and switch with Holy Scripture?

One of the RC's sacraments ~ confession ~ is done in private. Many other Christian churches provide for private consultation with ministers.

So, were you attending Christian churches or something else?

Thankfully neither of you are likely to get involved with Nation of Islam.

Of course. I've spent virtually all of my life in totally integrated neighborhoods, institutions or employment.

I've had several opportunities to embarrass AA's into giving up the N-word, and that's something most folks never have a chance to do.

BTW, important thing to note ~ I usually can recognize when an AA is having difficulties dealing with non-AAs. Michelle Obama is one such person. It is quite difficult for many AAs to overcome those feelings. Given her age I suspect she'll never get over it.

I would question any religion that has rituals that must be hidden from public view.

They are private, not secret. Everyone knows about them and they are reproduced in movies all the time. Nobody is shocked or embarrassed when their existence is discovered.

“Private” and “secret” really are completely different things.

My relationship with God is personal. That means I can pray in private directly to Him. The act of praying in private is not about secrecy although may include particular information that is secret between me and Him.

Many try to blur the lines between the two, and it is easy to do. For example:

Matthew 6:4
so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Christianity, in no way, wishes for the act of giving to be a secret which is unknown to those outside of Christianity. However, when one does give, it may be a secret regarding to whom, and how much, was given.

“Secret society” rituals are a different thing. Utterly and completely different.

There are Christian groups who are very strong on the business of keeping your charity secret ~ they are not cults.

>>There are Christian groups who are very strong on the business of keeping your charity secret ~ they are not cults.<<

Yep, that was my point in post 28. Giving and praying are PERSONAL things. However, the act itself is not “secret”.

The fact that the church supports giving and praying in secret is not, itself, secret. It is openly, in front of all society, discussed and desribed. It is clearly understood by anyone who wants to know.

In fact, I have the perfect analogy to explain the difference between the “cult rituals” done in secret and
secret prayer and giving:

Everyone uses a toilet, understands how to do it, and understands why they do it. But it is usually done in “secret”. And even then, those around you know where you are and what you are doing.

However, the “secret rituals” in mormonism are the equivalent of refusing to acknowledge that you even go to the bathroom, refusing to let anyone see your bathroom, and refusing to even discuss why you use it.

In short, it is a ceremony conducted only in mormon temples as a component for them gaining enterance into the highest level of heaven and becoming a god/dess. It is fundamentally based upon masonic rites and rituals of the 1800s and is not taught anywhere in the bible or suprisingly in any of the additional scriptures of mormonism.

It was the circle at the altar (the old “pay lay ale” part) and then the giving of the signs and going thru the veil in to the Celestial Room.

Pay Lay ale - Oh God hear the words of my mouth.

It's so speshul. The whole thing is just weird and bizarre. I just went and watched the Big Love scene on You tube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLPMvj-UxOI

It made me cry, thinking of how sad the whole system is. Families being destroyed under the auspices of “obedience” to cultic enactments. How my heart aches for my family still caught there. If only they could find freedom and wholeness through the atonement of Christ. I pray for them all!

There is a difference between private and secret. This is not about confidentiality. This ceremony is where the LDS go to learn the secret handshakes (literally) that they need to get into their heaven.
Tthey usually go through the first time right before leaving on a mission, or getting married. If you are an older convert, and/or married then you must be a member “in good standing” for at least 1 year.

Even members who have not gone through yet are totally kept in the dark. I remember taking a “temple preparation” class for 6 weeks at the Bishop’s house (local authority), and all it was about was the importance of genealogy, how we are saviors for our dead ancestors, how families can still be together in eternity, and how we must NEVER tell anyone about the ceremonies. It did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to prepare me for what the ceremonies are REALLY like.

Almost every Temple attending Mormon I know was bothered/scared/freaked out when they went through their “Endowments” (part of which was shown on Big Love) for the first time. Some never went back.

They did, but not in the Temple. Barb was baptized for Margene’s dead mother...in a Hotel jacuzzi tub.
