Am I wrong in thinking that mormons believe if a baby is aborted, the spirit of the dead child just goes back to the celestrial nursery and into another baby ???

You know, I don’t really know. The way it was explained to me, the spirit entered the body at conception, so an aborted (or miscarried) baby still would have had a body. The LDS believe we are here to learn and progress to perfection, so if a child was miscarried then the spirit of that child was so perfect that they only needed a body, not the full life lessons learned here on earth.

That being said, the LDS DO NOT perform ordinances for miscarried (or stillborn) children. So there may be some disconnect there.
