D.C.-Area Bishops To Enforce Communion Ban On Sebelius
The Bulletin ^ | April 01, 2009 | John P. Connolly

Posted on 04/01/2009 10:12:24 AM PDT by Mrs. Don-o

Two Washington, D.C.-area Catholic bishops have instructed Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, D-Kan., President Barack Obama’s pick to Be Secretary Of Health and Human Services, to refrain from receiving Holy Communion on account of her stances on human-life issues such as abortion and embryonic stem cell research.

This comes as Ms. Sebelius undergoes Senate confirmation hearings before the Committee on on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.

In May 2008, Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City, Kan. told Ms. Sebelius that she should not present herself to receive the sacrament of Holy Communion. Last week, Archbishop Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C. and Bishop Paul Loverde of Arlington, Va., both said that they would enforce Archbishop Naumann’s orders while Ms. Sebelius is in their respective dioceses.

Ms. Sebelius ran afoul of Catholic leaders for her strident support of abortion. She has been connected with late-term abortionist Geroge Tiller, who was found not guilty of violating Kansas’ late-term abortion laws at a trial earlier this week. Dr. Tiller still faces an investigation that could strip him of his medical license.

Ms. Sebelius was asked to refrain from the Eucharist in accordance with Canon 915 of the Catholic Code of Canon Law. According to that Canon, “those upon whom the penalty of excommunication or interdict has been imposed or declared, and others who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin, are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.”

Amen, and it's about time.

Now let's listen to a little song dedicated to Sebelius, Our Favorite Catholic Abortionist:

Long Time Gone
Crosby Stills Nash & Young

It's been a long time comin'
It's goin' to be a long time gone.
And it appears to be a long,
Appears to be a long,
Appears to be a long time,
Yes, a long, long, long, long time,
Before the dawn.

Turn, turn any corner.
Hear, you must hear what the people say,
You know there's something that's goin' on around here,
That surely, surely, surely won't stand the light of day.

YES!!!

Now if Notre Dame would only show some backbone and uninvite Obama, it would show the Church is standing up to those who so devalue innocent human life.

Sweet ... wonder what the creature will do? Defy the Bishops? Haul her sorry carcass to Baltimore, Richmond, or West Virginia? (Those Bishops should prepare for trouble ...) Stick her fingers in her ears and sing lalalalalala? Repent?

In related news, I wanted to make sure you got this link to the possibly GOOD news about Notre Dame: the UNINVITE OBAMA PETITION now has a phenomenal 223,607 signatures (sign up and send it to everybody in your Address Book!)

...And a BIG, BIG PROTEST IS A-COMIN' which stirs my activist imagination and makes me think Obama is gonna unite us after all :o)

Imagine 20,000 young, old, tie-dyed, purple-haired, properly-hatted and mantilla-covered, Catholic and not-Catholic-by-a-long-shot, All-Baby-Loving conservatives in the streets of South Bend singing

"We Shall Overcome --- O Ma-ri-a!...."

Please forgive me if I've pinged you more than once. I'm getting kinda excited, here....

The Bishops are showing some spine here aren’t they? Will they also deny Pelosi, Kerry, Kennedy, Daschle, Biden, etc.?

Archbishop Wuerl could start with “denying” Sen Barbara Mikluski (AbortionistRat, MD) ... one of his own, I think.

I think we should send thank-you's, bless-you's, and small donations to these bishops. You KNOW they're going to catch hell from rich liberal quasi-hemi-demi-and-anti-Catholics as well as the Left-Secularist Enforcement Squad (check for a barrage of "shocked---shocked" editorials coming soon.)

So I'm writing fan letters to these bishops.

Good idea.

BTW, I hereby predict that the usual “Rome Sux” crowd will completely ignore this thread.

I could be wrong, of course.

I never understood why these pro-abortion liberals call themselves Catholics. Must be a democrat thing to get votes. I applaud these Bishops for doing the right thing.

Here’s one Lutheran saying “hear, hear”. If only more RC bishops would take this stand, they could do a lot to help clean up the cesspool in Congress. Funny thing is, priests should always be looking out for their flocks and refusing them communion, if they aren’t penitent. It’s not so much as a punishment, but rather to protect their souls, per St. Paul. Communion is not to be taken lightly!

It’s not so much as a punishment, but rather to protect their souls,

It is discipline, both in the sense of punishment and the sense of teaching ... for, as you note, St. Paul teaches that Holy Communion is to be taken very seriously indeed. They have strayed disastrously from the truth, and need to be shown the error of their ways. This is not only for their own good, but for the good of others who may be scandalised by their behaviour.
