LORENZAGO DI CADORE, Italy - Pope Benedict XVI said the debate raging in some countries particularly the United States and his native Germany between creationism and evolution was an "absurdity," saying that evolution can coexist with faith.

The pontiff, speaking as he was concluding his holiday in northern Italy, also said that while there is much scientific proof to support evolution, the theory could not exclude a role by God.

They are presented as alternatives that exclude each other, the pope said. This clash is an absurdity because on one hand there is much scientific proof in favor of evolution, which appears as a reality that we must see and which enriches our understanding of life and being as such. He said evolution did not answer all the questions: Above all it does not answer the great philosophical question, "Where does everything come from?"

=============================================

Darwin himself clearly said the same thing in the Origin of Species. He did not try to explain the origin of life itself. That's well outside his theory.

While the Pope has a right to his opinion, he doesn't speak for everyone.
The debate between those whom champion the Bible over the claims of Darwinists is hardly “absurd” as the The Temple Of Darwin, like the global warming lobby, demands the right by force of law to indoctrinate our children.

While Darwin didn't want to comment on the origin of life his followers have been preoccupied with the question and used the question as the justification for the space program and endless other research.

The origin of life is one of THE questions for The Temple of Darwin as it must be for Darwinism to be an alternative to belief in the Creator God of the Bible, which does answer the great philosophical question:
“Where does everything come from?”

I wish he had not used the word absurdity - but basically I agree with Pope Benedict. The development through common decent to of life from small and similar to its current state of tremendous diversity is well documented. Since God is real and sent his Son for us they must therefore be computable.
