Brent Jeffs grew up in the inner circles of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; his grandfather was a prophet of the FLDS, which teaches that polygamy is a religious practice that guarantees salvation. Jeffs' uncle Warren Jeffs became president of the sect in 2002.

Although Brent Jeffs' lineage gives him what he says FLDS followers think of as "royal blood," he was eventually expelled from the FLDS church during a series of excommunications of dozens of men and boys.

Jeffs lost one brother to suicide, another to an overdose, but his book argues that the FLDS's "lost boys" needn't lose their way once they've parted ways with their church.

FLDS ping.
I read Krakauer’s “Under the Banner of Heaven.”
FLDS is America’s home-grown Wahabism.
Polygamy is the same evil no matter who practices it or where or with what religious trappings. The end results look remarkably similar.

Oh really? They fund terrorists and believe a terrorist doctrine of killing all who don’t believe in their sect? I didn’t know that.
They do have a history of oppression of women, exploitation of children, disrespect for the law, scamming of the welfare system and aggression towards their neighbors.
And yes, some of the self-styled, paranoid, nuttier types have engaged in terroristic acts towards others.
links? references?
There was a FR thread some time ago about how Mormons and Muslims were either trying to work together or it was just commenting on the similarities between the two religions.
I don’t recall when it was and I’ve tried doing a search on the thread and came up with nothing (not that it was unexpected with FR search engine)
Maybe some other FReepers can remember that thread and help out.
