[Liberty President Jerry Falwell Jr.] writes, “Parents and students support the university because they believe in its distinctly Christian identity and mission. Liberty University is pro-life and believes that marriage between one man and one woman provides the best environment for children. Liberty University will not lend its name or financial support to any student group that advances causes contrary to its mission....

....People have the freedom to join the Democratic Party, the Republican Party or any other party. Similarly, students have the freedom to choose where they invest their time and money in a college education. If a student does not agree with a conservative Christian college’s belief system, he or she would be wise to find another school. It’s his or her freedom to do so.

Democrats actually even attend Liberty University? I figured they’d probably be shunned by their fellow “oh so tolerant, loving and open minded” Dems for attending Jerry Falwell’s school.

"Is saying 'no' to Democrats the same as saying 'no' to democracy?"

In God's Name, I hope so. Just a plain old republic. Not a democratic republic. No stinkin' democracy at all.

The Washington Post is up in arms about this with an editorial entitled "This is Liberty?" .

That tells me that Falwell has got it right.

I hope he sticks to his guns in the face of the inevitable onslaught.

“Liberty University Fires Back at Liberal Media for Falsely Reporting It ‘Banned’ College Democrats”
Thursday, May 28, 2009
By Adam Brickley

SNIPPET: “Falwell, son of the university’s founder, the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, explained: “Official recognition carries with it the benefit of using the university name and funds. While this group will not be an officially recognized club, it may still meet on campus.”

According to Falwell, Democratic clubs have existed at Liberty over the last several decades—but as unofficial student clubs not endorsed by the school.”
