St. Louis region gets new Catholic archbishop

Roman Catholics from near and far will gather in St. Louis to mark the installation of Archbishop Robert Carlson.

An elaborate Mass to mark his beginning as archbishop of the St. Louis Archdiocese will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral Basilica. He'll lead a region with nearly half a million Catholics.

Carlson says he will be firm on church teaching, but he believes in dialogue - even with those he may disagree with. He says without that communication, it's impossible to get someone else's point of view.

The 64-year-old most recently served as the bishop of the Saginaw, Mich., diocese. Carlson succeeds Archbishop Raymond Burke, who now heads the Vatican supreme court.

"When a man has stepped over the threshold and allowed himself to fall into mortal sin, he must be purified by trial, but he must also, My children, be purified by the rule of penance and confession.
"What manner of evil is being set now upon mankind that compels him to lose his soul by rejecting the Sacraments, by no longer confessing to his confessor, but coming to receive My Son in sacrifice, while his soul is degraded by sin of mortal nature!" - , Robert Carlson, Our Lady of the Roses, September 7, 1976

NO COMMUNION FOR PRO-ABORT POLITICIANS!

Heavenly Father,
in these trying times
when the spirit of the age
threatens Christian values,
give our bishops holiness of life
and wisdom to direct and guide our (arch)diocesan
family so that we may grow in your love.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
