Open threads are a town square. Antagonism though not encouraged, should be expected

Posters may argue for or against beliefs of any kind. They may tear down other’s beliefs. They may ridicule.

On all threads, but particularly “open” threads, posters must never “make it personal.” Reading minds and attributing motives are forms of “making it personal.” Making a thread “about” another Freeper is “making it personal.”

When in doubt, review your use of the pronoun “you” before hitting “enter.”

Like the Smoky Backroom, the conversation may be offensive to some.

Thin-skinned posters will be booted from “open” threads because in the town square, they are the disrupters.

Thin-skinned (emotional, whiney or mercurial temper) posters are the disruptors on open threads.

This makes me want to send out letters of my own. The gaystapo never stop.

Last November, Jay Pimentel began hearing that people in his neighborhood were receiving letters about him. Pimentel lives in Alameda, Calif., a small, liberal-leaning community hanging off Oakland into the San Francisco Bay. Pimentel, who is a Mormon, had supported Proposition 8, the ballot initiative banning same-sex marriage. And that made him a target. “Dear Neighbor,” the letter began, “Our neighbors, Colleen and Jay Pimentel”—and it gave their address—”contributed $1,500.00 to the Yes on Proposition 8 campaign. NEIGHBORS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THEIR NEIGHBORS’ CHOICES.” The note accused the Pimentels of “obsessing about same-sex marriage.” It listed a variety of local causes that recipients should support—”unlike the Pimentels.”

The alienation felt by gay Mormons was highlighted in 2000, when one of them, 32-year-old Stuart Matis, committed suicide on the steps of the Los Altos, Calif., church headquarters.

So the Mormons--and the broader Judeo-Christian world--are supposed to alter traditions dating back milleniums so as to--what?--make suicidal degenerates feel better about themselves?

"If it appeared that the church sat out next time because it was criticized this time, there might be a credibility question."

Oh yeah...

THIS might make a CREDIBILITY problem alright!

*yawn*

It’s only as intimidating as we allow it to be. Firmness of convictions (and in this case - Faith) should make people unworried about such scrutiny of their beliefs and actions.

Hi Elsie...

:)
_________________________________________________

Brigham Young’s “Proclamation on the Family”:

“You ought to love a woman only so far as she adorns the doctrine you profess; so far as she adorns that doctrine, just so far let your love extend to her. When will she be worthy of the full extent of your affection? When she has lived long enough to secure to herself a glorious resurrection and an eternal exaltation as your companion, and never until then.

“Elders, never love your wives one hair’s breadth further than they adorn the Gospel, never love them so but that you can leave them at a moment’s warning without shedding a tear.

“Should you love a child any more than this? No. Here are Apostles and Prophets who are destined to be exalted with the Gods, to become rulers in the kingdoms of our Father, to become equal with the Father and the Son, and will you let your affections be unduly placed on anything this side that kingdom and glory? If you do, you disgrace your calling and Priesthood. The very moment that persons in this Church suffer their affections to be immoderately placed upon an object this side the celestial kingdom, they disgrace their profession and calling. When you love your Wives and children, are fond of your horses, your carriages, your fine houses, your goods and chattels, or anything of an earthly nature, before your affections become too strong, wait until you and your family are sealed up unto eternal lives, and you know they are yours from that time henceforth and for ever.”

- The Prophet Brigham Young

I would consider the letter writing campaign against this mormon to be the vulgar and despiciable core of the ‘gay rights’ movement. Silence all opposition at all cost. For that part I sympathize. However, mormons are newcommers to this fight, Christianity has been facing these gangsters since the 70’s and the great gay Florida orange juice boycots. The gay-gestapo doesn’t go after the muslems who supported Prop 8 and have continued to go after the Catholic and Evangelical Churches.

I think the author was referring to credibility concerning the LDS church’s commitment to fighting the Gay Agenda, not the church’s doctrinal credibility

I was pointing out that they have, ahem, creditibility problems in LOTS of areas.

Teachings About the Premortal Existence

Premortal Life
"Prior to mortal birth individuals existed as men and women in a spirit state and thus coexisted with both the Father and the Son. That period of life is also referred to as the first estate or pre-existence." Encyclopedia of Mormonism
Foreordination
"Foreordination is the premortal selection of individuals to come forth in mortality at specified times, under certain conditions, and to fulfill predesignated responsibilities." Encyclopedia of Mormonism
Devils
"In LDS discourse, the term "devil" denotes anyone who promotes the cause of evil, but it is especially applied to those unembodied spirits who rebelled against God in the premortal life and were cast down from heaven to this earth." Encyclopedia of Mormonism
Birth
"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that every person experiences a series of "births." All were born as spirit children of God in a premortal life. Second, these individual spirit children received a mortal, physical body when they were born on earth. Third, those who accept and live the gospel of Jesus Christ go through a process of being born again in a spiritual sense (see Born of God). Although these births are real, they do not in any way constitute any type of reincarnation." Encyclopedia of Mormonism
When Does the Spirit Enter the Womb?
"The time of quickening is when the mother feels the life of her unborn infant."  President Joseph Fielding Smith
Reincarnation
"This theory is rejected by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints." Encyclopedia of Mormonism
