I agree with Tax-Chick. I'm a cradle Catholic, married for almost 34 years, and even I have difficulty with the scholarly approach to the subject sometimes. There are folks who have not read serious writings on the subject who would benefit greatly from the knowledge offered by John Paul II. Having someone who can, for lack of a better term, interpret the Pope's writings for those folks is a wonderful thing. I'd much rather they were taught the subject in a way they can understand and put to use, than not pay attention to some person who is giving them the correct information, but is being tuned out because of the manner of presentation.
It certainly doesn't make those folks who would prefer the subject treated in a more contemporary manner any less Catholic. The fact that they WANT to know Church teaching on the subject, so they can follow it, is a good thing.
