individual monks take vows. Their orders or organizations however, owned monasteries, land, libraries, hand written books (lucky for you includes bibles) and various other assets. Why would you consider that unusual??
What would Catholic monks, sworn to poverty, be doing owning “properties” ????
I probably meant what you said ...the religious orders owned the property
but still not the individual monks..
