And looked what happened to Miriam and Aaron when they only mocked Moses — sibling rivalry? It was yesterday’s first reading for daily Mass.

I already wrote to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and got a note with a link to the USCCB’s statement about universal healthcare.

The USCCB is headed by my own bishop, Bishop William Murphy of Rockville Centre.

The USCCB’s statement insists that we pass healthcare reform, and while it does mention that any reform “must respect all life from conception to natural death,” IMO, it is a document rife with naivete.

There is NO WAY universal healthcare will not include provisions for contraception, abortion on demand, and euthanasia. NO WAY.

Additionally, the document does not acknowledge for one moment the unconstitutionality of any such plan; to the contrary, it seems to claim that there is a “natural right” to universal healthcare. The claim is based on “charity.”

Of course, true charity is not given at the point of a gun...it can ONLY be given freely. Anything else is theivery, not charity.

Anyway, the Society seems to be taking its cue from this document. I imagine Catholic Charities and the Catholic Health Association will do the same.

Regards,

PS: I wrote back that, given their response...I will have to keep looking to find a Catholic charity to which I can send my donations, because the SSVdP won't be getting any more of them.

Leprosy is too good for Obama and Congress.

Part of my email from Father Pavone, Priests for Life:

“Make no mistake. The “health care reform” bills being finalized in Congress will set off a chain reaction that will result in a massive expansion of abortion!

That’s because unless Congress explicitly states that abortion is excluded, it will be regarded as “an essential benefit” for Americans. Once that’s done, insurance companies would be forced to cover elective abortions which would in turn force local health networks to recruit and hire abortionists.

And to make matters even worse, because these would be federal mandates ...

... state laws that now restrict abortion will probably be overturned!
As I said, this is FOCA in disguise!”

Although Abp Dolan spoke out on his way out of town to take up his NY post, I think that it is shameful that our 2 remaining Milwaukee Bishops — Sklba and Callahan have not said a peep.

Thaht is so sad. I was absolutely dumbfounded to St. The St. Vincent dePaul society on that list.

What’s the matter with the bishops who have not publically stated their support for life? Isn’t it their duty to inform and persuade their flock that abortion is the killing of an innocent soul?

Besides contacting your bishops, you can write a letter to the editor to your diocese newspaper explaining how the health bill will increase abortions and euthanasia.

Also, I read something about the bishops wanting healthcare, but not abortions. I don’t think all of them knew all of the facts, but now they do.

I found it. This is what I read:

‘”We want to see people who have no health insurance get it, but this is a sticking point,” said Richard Doerflinger, associate director of pro-life activities for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. “We don’t want health care reform to be the vehicle for mandating abortion.”’

Whoops! A little typo there...I should have said that “the USCCB’s Committee for Domestic Justice and Human Development is headed by my own bishop, Bishop William Murphy of Rockville Centre.”

Sorry for the confusion.

Jenny
