I didnt go, of course, but I got a look at the bulletin for the Goodsoil Eucharist tonight at Central Lutheran. Presider was Bp. David Brauer-Rieke, preacher was Barbara Lundblad, others involved included Robyn Hartwig and Gladys Moore. I thought you might like to see the Affirmation of Faith used in the service:
I believe in God,
Maker of an unfinished world,
Who calls us to participate in bringing about the fullness of Creation.
God, who created abundant resources to provide for all
. God, who has not divided people into rich and poor,
owners and slaves,
Nor pitted us against each other because of race, color, social class or sex.
I believe in Jesus Christ who was ridiculed, tortured and executed for the sins of humankind.
He has overthrown the rule of evil and injustice and continues to judge and redeem the hatred and arrogance of human beings.
I believe in the Spirit of God whose flame comforts us with divine presence and causes our hearts to burn for righteousness and justice.
I believe in the reconciling power of God in our lives and in the world.
I believe that God, through people, can bring peace and hope, justice and equality, the relief of suffering and pain, and the final triumph of love and grace.
Amen.
Hardly the faith once delivered to the saints, is it?
The organization arranged for a worship service--I shall not dignify it by calling it a Eucharist--at Central Lutheran Church, directly across the street from the Minneapolis Convention Center, site of the ELCA Churchwide Assembly.
Both the Convention Center and church were damaged by a tornado touchdown earlier this afternoon. The tornado ripped the cross from Central Lutheran's steeple.
I believe the hand of God was at work, for knowing all the Goodsoil represents, the service tonight was a celebration of the anti-creed postulated by Niehbuhr:
"a God without wrath who brings humans without sin into a kingdom without judgment through a Christ without a cross."

The Council of Nicaea, this ain’t. Thank you for the ping.
Well, at least their “screed” doesn’t say “God created the Democratic Party to save us,” but by the time Mr. Hopey Changey is done, that screed will change and the Good Reverend, the GREAT Reverend Jeremiah will be in charge of it all - the demi-God, Mr. Wright. Will you now come forward Bishop Sharpton. Will you now come forward Bishop Jackson. Say Amen, flock! Now, kneel!
Yes a lot of people do.
"Maker of an unfinished world,"
Yes, and he does promise to finish it and he does keep his promises.
"Who calls us to participate in bringing about the fullness of Creation."
Except their fullness of creation includes the fullness of all carnal delights of "humankind's" choosing.
"God, who created abundant resources to provide for all."
And married Mother Nature and had a baby named Earth.
"God, who has not divided people into rich and poor, owners and slaves"
Not like the oppressive intolerant founders of the United states of America.
"Nor pitted us against each other because of race, color, social class or sex."
Again, Not like the oppressive intolerant founders of the United states of America.
"I believe in Jesus Christ who was ridiculed, tortured and executed for the sins of humankind."
Yes, me too, but it's mankind, or better yet, Man, and its not offensive to say it like that. A true Christian knows man is not really kind, he is full off sin and his only hope is belief in Jesus Christ Crucified for our sin.
"He has overthrown the rule of evil and injustice and continues to judge and redeem the hatred and arrogance of human beings"
I think that what they really mean what is overthrown is the laws God gave Moses. And NO,Christ did not overthrow those laws!
"I believe in the Spirit of God whose flame comforts us with divine presence and causes our hearts to burn for righteousness and justice."
I think they mean the Holy Spirit!
"I believe in the reconciling power of God in our lives and in the world."
So get the reconciling and "Sin no more" "
I believe that God, through people, can bring peace and hope, justice and equality, the relief of suffering and pain, and the final triumph of love and grace."
Sigh,Actually it's through Jesus Christ the lamb of God not just people.
Amen.I'm surprised they say that, it has the word "man" in it.
Okay so, I'm being judgmental here but I really think there is a certain amount of righteous judgment that speaks from the Holy Spirit within me and I felt the need to attempt to translate this political correctness that waters down the meaning of our language as well as the meaning of the Scriptures.
The ELCA has left the faith to become purely a left-wing political organization.
They are no longer a Lutheran Faith. They are an abomination.
You nailed it there, Pastor! Well said!
Apparently Christ, on the cross, had it wrong then.
It goes without saying that this “Creed” is apostasy. I’m not surprised. It seems when a church or ecclesial group becomes too involved in the affairs of the world, becomes political, whether to the left or the right, when the Holy Spirit is replaced in the life of the group with the Zeitgeist, heresy is inevitable.
Thanks for the pic. Whirlwinds and toppled steeples . . .
“Built on the Rock the church doth stand,
Even when steeples are falling . . .
“We are Gods house of living stones,
Builded for His habitation;
He through baptismal grace us owns,
Heirs of His wondrous salvation;
Were we but two His Name to tell,
Yet He would deign with us to dwell,
With all His grace and His favor.”
