They’re hidden away—along with the Garden of Eden, Noah’s Ark, and all the rest of the mythological references.

Let’s also not forget that an angel (Moroni?) supposedly appeared to Joe Smith after the “translation” was finished and told him that the translation was correct, so off to the printer he went. So why the need for 3000+ changes to the “most perfect book on the face of the earth?”

It really makes me sad. I have a few people very near to me who are faithful to the church. I don’t want to destroy their faith, because it would destroy them, so I shut my mouth, but I still feel bad.

"-- which tells the story of ancient American inhabitants who sailed from the Holy Land --"

I'm still waiting for the immense trove of archeological evidence on this part......still waiting....

"If someone has the view that nobody has made a mistake, they are going to be gravely disappointed," Skousen says. "You see the fingerprints of human beings all over this text from its original dictation from Joseph Smith."

What a startling admission!

It seems the LDS church is definitely trying the "misery loves company" approach and is attempting to say we all make mistakes.

The problem with that line of reasoning is that God does NOT make mistakes, and the Bible, by contrast to the Book of Mormon and its other texts, is inerrant and without flaw. It's books were inspired by God.

The Bible has withstood the test of time. There are entire textbooks written to this subject. Every attack on the Bible falls flat. Every "mistake" is proven false.

Joey Smith's tall tale, on the other hand..........................................

The protestants had no need to declare themselves sole guard of faith,

Using that logic, it is safe to say the Jews had no need to declare the God of Israel the true god, and their faith was truth compared to the pagan religions of her neighbors?

It is also correct to say that Paul had no need (or no authority) to declare anything about the truth of Christ, faith, truth, morality, death, heaven, hell, sin, redemption, and salvation?

I don’t want to destroy their faith, because it would destroy them,

I know it is hard, but it akin to telling an alcoholic they are drinking themselves to death.

The Bible says without Truth we are already perishing. Every parent who loves their child will tell them not to walk into traffic. Yet, we hesitate to tell God's creation not to believe a lie.

But, 2 Thessalionians 2: 11 says that those who reject the Truth of God will be sent a strong delusion so that they believe a lie.

I have thought a lot about that. I believe God does that when people reject him over and over. He probably finally says something like: "Fine - if that's the way you want it, you have it that way, but know this - it has consequences."

What is it about Mormonism that makes you all feel so threatened?

I have seen this tactic in the past. My question is, why do people pursue such a lame tactic on Free Republic?

This forum is a beacon of light and candor, in a world where we have a media that hides the truth and lies every day, and governments that are even worse.

We expose their lies here. These are lies concerning the world. Tell me; isn't it even more important to discuss lies concerning Almighty God?

In fact, doesn't the Bible call for exposing false teaching? Didn't Christ warn about deceivers? Doesn't God say His word is true?

ANSWER: All of the Above.

You posted this on Sunday:

The coverage in the state-run media reminds of the treatment we got when the Yes on 8 side came out in droves the Saturday before the election.

I could say to you (using your premise):

Gee, what is it about the state run media that makes you feel so threatened?

See how this works?

I can do the same for any other topic you wish to comment on, or have commented on.

Here in the Religion forum (of all places) we are discussing religion.

Either enter the debate, or don't, but please do not question the right of others to do so.

The key idea is to transfer their faith -- from Joseph Smith to the true Jesus Christ. Any faith in a mere man is a sandy foundation. (There's a Sandy, Utah for a reason)

Just another example of, “HEY! Look over there!”

The BoM is useless to mormonism.

NONE of the ordinances, doctrines or covenants are even FOUND in it!

What is it about you that makes you feel like MORMONism can actually THREATEN a Christian?

This is true ONLY for a very few.

As my military drill sergeant crushed the wills of many men; only to rebuild them in the manner needed, Jesus Christ can take that 'broken' soul and make it into one of His followers.

In fact; if a person is NOT 'broken', there is no need for the Master to heal them.

No, it's not useless. It has served as the perfect "come-on" to outsiders for 170 years:
King James simulation vocabulary
Two dozen KJV chapters of the Bible stolen word-for-word in 1611 UK English
Hundreds of other New Testament phrases plagiarized
A "perfect" Lds missionary offering to the unwary to "pray about" (note that they NEVER offer anyone the opportunity to pray about "Doctrine & Covenants" lds "scripture")

Your concerns regarding their response to finding out that mormonism are justified in part. Mormons are so ingrained on the notion that everything outside of mormonism is false, that when many of them leave the mormon church, they reject ALL religion (kinda a mormon scorched earth policy) and become atheists/agnostics. However, just like trying to warn the driver of a car that the bridge ahead is washed out, one must still try. It seems that one of the key aspects is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If they can be 'anchored' or assured of that, it will keep them from being destroyed when they see the rest of mormonism fall down around them.

(That "angel's" been reassigned...well, first my "personal" urim & thummim was telling me "reassigned to remedial grammar school & basic journalism school" -- but now my urim & thummim editor has edited it to read: "That 'angel' was 'reassigned' PRIOR to 'A-OKing' the Book of Mormon -- in fact that 'angel' had been part of Heaven's 1/3rd 'reduction in force' that went into effect in the pre-mortal world.")

. . . in fact that 'angel' had been part of Heaven's 1/3rd 'reduction in force' that went into effect in the pre-mortal world.

And we thought the economy HERE was bad.
