A statue of an ordinary man is not making Almighty God into a statue. I dont have a problem with a statue of Peter, Paul, etc., as long as people dont pray to it (or with it), worship it, or offer sacrifices or gifts to it. To make an image and pray to it, or say this is what God looks like is idolatry. As long as nobody bows down, prays to or in anyway worships a statue of an ordinary person, it is not idolatry. What makes you think we "pray to it"?
When one makes an image of God it is idolatry.
I thought an idol was something which man placed above God? Something which takes God's rightful place. No?
Why is it OK to make an image of a mere man and not of Jesus Himself?
