My own daughter's marriage ceremony was “God” less. It was held in a hotel and God was not mentioned, not even once. One of my other daughters just had a baby and she and her husband are raising him to be an atheist. A third daughter has also abandoned her faith.

I am so sorry to hear this! Pope Benedict XVI warned that the greatest threat to christianity was the growth in secularism and relativism. I will add your children to my prayer list. As parents who have raised our children in the faith, watching our children latch on to secularism, is the most painful experience. Rest assured of my prayers for you as well.

“However, the group tends to be young, male, politically independent and of Irish ancestry.”

Not sure I’m understanding what being Irish has to do with it...

I’d think it would be more a factor across the board of being raised in a home that has no religion, by a single Mom where you have siblings from many different sperm donors and most importantly NO Father to kick their arse!

Not sure about that, my dad and his 5 brothers and sisters had the same father who was there to keep them in line and get them to church every Sunday and none of them are religious today.

I don't think Irish is a root cause just a characteristic they have in common. As the second largest claimed ancestry in the US it isn't surprising.

I have three daughters as well. None have abandoned the Faith but one wonders what the future may hold as to at least one who shows allergy to the Tridentine Mass and some Kumbaya enthusiasms. She is talented but not terribly wise.

I join with NYer in praying that your daughters come to appreciate and share the wisdom of their mother. May God bless each of them and grant to them the graces they need and the wisdom to accept those graces. May God bless you and yours.

because of those who worship the earth goddess Gaia and are ecology friendly would only drive a prius, unless they walk everywhere on barefeet, because PETA says ‘leather is bad.’

:)

I am, quite frankly, surprised at the fact that Italian American men were not more prevalent in this demographic than Irish American men, other than the fact that, in total numbers, there are more Irish Americans than Italian Americans (or Polish Americans for that matter). Given the traditional antipathy toward the Church by many Italian men, and the high historical prevalence of "cafeteria Catholics" in this demographic long before Vat II, I thought they would be a larger sector of the non-religious.

Then again, Italian Americans are probably the ONLY major immigrant group that grew more religious in the second generation (with a plateauing among subsequent generation).

German Americans outnumber Irish Americans, but many of them are Lutherans. German American Catholics also tend to be concentrated in areas of the country where secularism has been slower to take hold as well.

However shoes shouldn’t be made of wood, as one has to cut down (i.e. Kill) trees to make them! :)

If one can "kill" them to eat them, make houses and furniture from them, or burn them for heat, one can "kill" them to wear them. :)

But if one is a true eco-freak, you treat the tree as sacred and do not do anything with it except to watch it grow. You do not use it for anything. :)

So, they don't live very long, do they? They can't eat anything because it means "killing" carrots and cabbage...they can't wear any clothing because one has to "kill" cotton.

So, they are stariivng, naked and cold?
