I personally believe that Pope Pius XII deserves a plaque in Yad Vashem denoting him "Righteous Among the Gentiles". I also believe what's keeping him from being considered is the liberal antipathy toward the Catholic Church's teachings about sexuality, in particular, abortion. It seems crazy that the two should be entwined, but I believe that they are.
The number six million is the best approximation for the number of persons Hitler exterminated, or at least the most consistent number. Anyone who genuinely wants to know how they arrived at that number will hear the phrase “holocaust denier” immediatly, as it is a forbidden question.
Out of the six million, many were killed for being something other than Jewish: Catholics, Polish, homosexuals and Christians of other denominations as well. It is unfortunate that recognizing other persons who suffered at the hands of the Socialists in Germany is seen as an attack on the Jewish people.
un hunh. I think everybody knows that the idea was to wipe out the Jewish people, however. Specifically.
