Rogert Herft said the Vatican's offer to receive Anglicans would provide a "helpful way for those who wished to join the Roman Catholic Church to do so on similar terms to many Roman Catholics".

Not "similar." Identical is the word. There's only one Church, and I think many Anglicans, even conservative ones, actually will have a problem with this. They're used to a situation where you could pick and choose - some people believed in Transubstantiation and the Real Presence and some people didn't, but it was all groovy - but they're coming into one where either you believe it or...you're not part of the show.

BXVI has done an incredible thing, because Anglicans are actually being confronted individually on what they believe. And this is actually the only way for a group (a "tradition," as the Vatican called them) to come in. Individually after a decision to accept the Faith.

Yes do not be angry at the poofters who insist that sodomy is acceptable, do not be angry with those who elevated women to the episcopacy, ignore the Primate’s embrace of paganism. Be joyful that you may Come Home to Rome.

In theory, the presence of married formerly-Anglican priests in Catholic holy orders should not be a problem. IIRC, 22 of the 23 autonomous particular Churches in communion with the Bishop of Rome have a centuries-old custom of married men becoming priests. All of them do --- Melkites, Maronites, Syriac, and so forth-- except for the Latin (Western) Church.

In practice, it might ruffle some feathers.

By the way, there's a good article here about how the professional ecumenists and liberal Catholic bishops opposed the welcome-home-Anglicans idea, and how our dear B-16 did an end-run around them. Good to see.

Does it work both ways? If a dissatisfied Catholic were to show up at an Anglican church in Perth and say he wanted to join, would he be told “don’t be hasty about this”?

Hmmm. I think the Anglicans will come to Rome anyway.

Hmmm - is this different from the "deal" that was offered to Archbishop Cranmer?  Before he was burned at the stake?
