**The decision of whether to celebrate Halloween should be made prudently, charitably, and in conformity with the faith. As St. Augustine said, in essential things there must be unity, in matters of opinion there may be diversity, but in all things there must be charity.**

It’s not the kiddies celebrating Halloween that’s the problem. It’s the adults in awful, indecent, or ghoulish costumes at drunken parties.

It is easy to see how the different popular practices were mixed into one holiday, and they came to be celebrated on the eve of All Saints, the last day before winter according to Irish and British custom. My mother (born 1933, Bronx, NY) swears they went around Thanksgiving morning, dressed in tatters, knocking on doors asking "anything for Thanksgiving?" She swears this was the custom and not trick-or-treating on Halloween.
Has anyone else heard of this?

Maybe Halloween didn't start out as bad, but devil-worshipping people have turned it bad. It's become more ghoulish and terrifying with every passing year.
So I don't "celebrate" it. Seems a few neighbors agreed with me...nobody rang our doorbell last night.
