Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights
'The woman was a fanatic and a fundamentalist and a fraud, and millions of people are much worse off because of her life'.
NEW YORK, NY (Catholic League) - On October 30, atheist Christopher Hitchens appeared on Dennis Millers Internet radio show condemning Mother Teresa, yet again.
Here is one of his choice statements: The woman was a fanatic and a fundamentalist and a fraud, and millions of people are much worse off because of her life, and its a shame there is no hell for your bitch to go to.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded today:
"I once told Hitchens that one of the real reasons he hates Mother Teresa has to do with his socialist ideology: he believes the state should care for the poor, not voluntary organizations, and he especially loathes the idea of religious ones servicing the dispossessed.
Indeed, he sees in Mother Teresa the very embodiment of altruism, a virtue he cannotwith good reasonfully comprehend.
The fact of the matter is that socialism is the greatest generator of poverty known to mankind, and Mother Teresa did more to heal and rescue its victims than anyone in the modern era.
This explains why she is adored by the people who knew her bestthe men and women of India (she is second only to Gandhi as the nations most revered person).
Hitchens is positively obsessed by Mother Teresa, and that is a very telling commentary on his psyche. She is a constant reminder that reason without faith is a dark hole".

Hitchens fears Mother Teresa and all that she represents.
Again?
He’s more than a bit of a nutjob.
From a man who freely admits that every day he drinks enough booze to kill a mule. He must have an awful existence.
You just know Teresa is praying for him right now.
God bless and help this angry, but generally truthful man.
Who in their right mind could say this about Mother Teresa, the woman who gave nothing but compassion and hope to the hopeless ? I think he might be possessed.
Two things to think about:
1. This thread is a duplicate, it was posted yesterday.
2. Christopher Hitchens is a reprobate. He’s no friend of conservatives and was probably “condemning” Mother Theresa because Anita Dunn made the reference to MT and Mao Tse Tung. Christopher Hitchens was doing his best to make it clear to everyone who has ears to hear that he thinks higher of Mao Tse Tung than he does of Mother Theresa.
Christopher Hitchens is no friend of conservatives and a committed hater of all religions. He supports the U.S. War on Terror not because he loves the USA and all it stands for but because the sight of Muslims being blown up brings a smile to his face.
If the U.S. declared a War on Christianity and B-52’s were obliterating the Vatican and nuns and priests were being set on fire (like in the Spanish revolution of 1936 and the Bolsheviks of 1917) Christopher Hitchens would be popping open a bottle of champagne and would drink so much of it in celebration that he would be in danger of alcohol poisoning.
I should have added a third item.
3. Christopher Hitchens is not on the conservative side and only naive and unlearned and unprincipled conservatives think he is.
The voices of hell speak through him, made easier by the heavy drinking. He is a very sad man and does not realize the danger he is in.
His hatred is so irrational and puzzling that he refuses to hear any defense of her.
Hitchens is a highly intelligent guy, a prolific and first rate writer, and let’s not forget how devastating he was early on about Clinton, and how he finally came down squarely on the side of our efforts to defeat Radical Islam.
HOWEVER, a “former” Leftist can never really let his Leftist worldview go altogether, and it may take him another 10 years to let this MT fixation go, and gather some perspective: Hitchen’s problem is the same as lots of Leftists, who still don’t fancy themselves Leftists, but Independent thinkers, like Gore Vidal. What they really lack is an essential dimension, the spiritual dimension. It’s notoriously missing from all their secular formulations. It’s what keeps them ALWAYS close to the God-hating Left, even when they’re forced to look around at”the company they keep” start feeling a little ashamed of themselves.
I know, having just come from Mass, I should be able to pray for Mr. Hitchens, but it’s SO HARD when I know that the Devil surely deserves him. I’ll try, though. Really, I will. I always say a little prayer that those who do not know Christ Jesus will come to know him.

I have no idea how that posted twice, unless the Holy Spirit said, “You can say that again.” ;-)
Hitchens supported the war in Iraq because he is a longtime champion and vocal advocate for the Kurdish rebels on Turkey’s border who are fellow Marxists. That is the one and only reason he and the other Brit Marxists supported the war.
What is it with these guys all of a sudden? Seems like everybody but Dennett has piped up with some attention-grabbing whistling before he dies. Just another old atheiest checking his holecard.
Good luck, Chris (catchy Christian name, there). Let us know how that Judgment thing works out for you, okay?
Hitchens’ book about Mother Teresa gives the best insight into his disdain ...I think her quote “suffering of the poor is something very beautiful and the world is being very much helped by the nobility of this example of misery and suffering,” still angers him to this day, and he has felt that the huge amounts of money donated to Mother Teresa’s order has been misused...and don’t get him started on the fortunes the Vatican sits on !
For goodness’ sake, for God’s sake, let’s stop railing about how awful Hitchens is and start praying for him. Even if he comes to the Lord on his very deathbed, it’s as good a conversion as any other; Jesus said so. Sometimes it takes many years for a particularly hard heart to learn the truth. But I have seen in one near to me how a brilliant mind just as dedicated to atheism as Hitchens can come to realize that there is a God and He loves us greatly. Hitchens could be turned around even if the Devil is using him now. Please, let’s all pray for him before he truly is lost. Think of what a great servant of the Lord he could be, with his wit and his talent for writing!
There are valid critiques, and then there are drunken ravings. Hitchens far too often ends up dealing in the latter and neglects the former.
