Many years ago I recall Erwin Lutzer of Moody Church fame saying that he had people tell him weekly to put up a huge cross in the church he serves, and he resisted because it smacks of idolatry. It shouldn't be the focus of our worship. I can see arguments both ways. But the very issue shouldn't divide churches either. Knowing hard-nosed, stubborn church folk, though, I suspect it has done just that over the years.
And a dying world look on in disbelief and scoff.

I wear a cross most days. While I've read some of Erwin Lutzer’s books, when I see a cross in church or touch the one around my neck I don't think of idolatry - I think of the sacrifice that He made for us. It's that simple.
