I suspect there are two overriding contributors to that phenomenon:
1. Testosterone . . . and thereby . . . particularly with regard to REACTIVE ATTACHMENT DISORDERED childhoods for males and females with an extra chunk of testosterone . . . it quickly betcomes an ego thing.
2. DNA and the Thrill Seeking gene.
Milder exchanges are just not as interesting or as invigorating.
I think "the hubris reaches it's [sic] zenith" when people stop addressing actual issues with facts and logic, and resort to making sweeping generalizations about the "compulsions" and other psychopathologies of their opponents.
And, oddly enough, this whole operation of psychoanalyzing others somehow escapes all strictures against "mind-reading". I'll never understand it.
I agree
But I have noticed sometimes people do not know what their church really teaches or do not understand what it means, so the representation is an honest one not a misrepresentation
I’m curious about the RM’s perspective on the same issue(s):

I would add the word "correct" ceremonies to your comment.
Wiccans have lots of ceremonies. Which of them is "important?"
Perhaps you could clarify a bit.
Let's say that I make the following statement:
Calvinists say that, "Only those who faithfully adhere to Calvin's 'Institutes' are elect, all others are damned."
And to this you respond:
Where did you come up with statement, "Only those who faithfully adhere to Calvin's 'Institutes' are elect, all others are damned"?
And my response to you is
It can be found on THOUSANDS of OPC and PCA websites.
Now, I know full well that the statement, "Only those who faithfully adhere to Calvin's 'Institutes' are elect, all others are damned" cannot be found on any OPC or PCA websites, because I made it up.
So, here's my question, am I a liar or am I just trying to avoid honest debate?
IF I’m at all aright about the two biggest causes . . . it will likely prove quite challenging to overcome such causes . . . either toward calmer dialogue generally on the open threads . . . or in terms of interesting folks in the calmer category threads.

Exactly..we are all entitled to an opinion
BINGO!!!!!!
I don't care what degrees one has, where one has been, what institution one teaches at, or what one teaches there ...
To attempt diagnosis of folks on a pseudonymous internet forum demonstrates precisely the "lack of humility" to which I have been objecting.
My wife is a music teacher. We’ve switched churches because of the music — but not denominations. That’s an interesting reason for conversion.
We attended a small fellowship with about 300 members at one point. My wife’s father led worship about half of the time. He’s a musician by trade, and a reasonably good singer and guitar player. The pastor’s wife headed-up the music department, and led worship half the time as well. She was a very talented piano player, but couldn’t sing worth a lick. It was distracting.
For that reason (and a couple of others), we switched to a Houston megachurch with 50K+ members (Second Baptist, not Lakewood). The music is fantastic ... they have a very talented Christian rock group that does contemporary services, and a 120 member choir that does more traditional worship services. We’ve been there about a year-and-a-half.
The Pastor is brilliant and Biblical. His current series is called “Healing Broken America” — and is everything you would expect from a conservative patriotic Baptist minister.
This weeks sermon may be on the website (second.org — actually, I just checked, and it hasn’t been posted yet ... I may post an FR article when it is posted). I’d highly recommend it for any red-blooded conservative American (and especially for liberals). The sermon was primarily about what America (Washington, Wall St., etc.) can learn from the story of the Prodigal Son. One of the best he’s ever given.

Both ( hows that for being ecumenical )

Please close this thread. It is a failure.
I have noticed that a whole bunch of anti-Catholics don't know what the Catholic Church really teaches and certainly don't understand what they do know, yet they still want to speak as if they are experts.
And a quick review of Scripture shows the words “ceremony” and “ceremonies” appear in the New Testament zero times.
What was I saying about telling other folks what they believe?
