This being the religious forum, and the question being “can christians work with Muslims”, and the answer here seeming to be “no way”, I’ll go ahead and cite a religious authority for my final response.

In my opinion, if the Pope feels comfortable speaking of the virtues proclaimed by Islam, and speaks of unity and harmony, that would speak well of the LDS church doing something as simple as a joint relief effort with muslims.

As much as I admire “B16”, I disagree with him 100% on this.

I have read the Koran (in chronological order) and have known Muslims. While I hold no ill will to “inactive” Muslims, I find NO virtue at all in Islam.

Actually the relationship beteween Mormons and Moslems is not just for humanitarian efforts...

From P3 of the article linked in #26

U.S. Muslims share friendship, similar values with Mormons

“We were treated as dignitaries,” said Shabbir Mansuri, founding director of the Muslim-based Institute on Religion and Civic Values in Fountain Valley, which encourages tolerance through research and education. “I met with the president of LDS and the governor of Utah. We were sitting in the front row of the Tabernacle. Mormons would give their right arms to be there.”

Mormons would give their right arms to be there. ???

So why arent the tithe/dues paying members of mormonism treated that good ???

Do the Moelems get to go to the temples also ???

The “lyin for the lord” for the temple recommends would be a breeze...

But then the Moslems would not need them...

After all as Hoaks said in the same article...

“Mormons “explain our faith to anyone who will listen” and “treat Muslims like anybody else,” said Elder Dallin H. Oaks, a member of the Quorum of the 12 Apostles, one of the church’s top governing bodies in Salt Lake City. But Oaks added that “we don’t preach to people who would be disenfranchised” or likely offended.” (Dallin H Oakes)

I’ve known a few muslims at work, and they seemed nice enough.

I’ve known one muslim in the political realm, and he seemed first to be a very squishy muslim, but moreso I found him to be politically correct and dedicated to the service of our country.

Maybe it is just hard for some people to leave their faith, and so they cling to it while really not believing much of it.

I mean, we see that so clearly with the many Catholic democrats who profess to hold dearly to their faith, while denouncing some pretty basic beliefs of their church.

But I’ve long since tired of trying to defend ANY muslim here, or frankly anywhere else. Let them defend themselves, it’s not like there are millions of conservative muslims helping us defeat the left’s agenda (as there are with Mormons).
