Jenkins, students head to D.C. for march - (Notre Dame Right to Life Club sends students to DC)

Almost 400 students will participate in this year’s national March for Life Friday in Washington, D.C. — doubling last year’s participation.

The Notre Dame Right to Life Club sends students to the nation’s capital every year to march in the annual pro-life rally, the group’s co-vice president Mary Daly, a senior, said.

But this year, for the first time, University President Fr. John Jenkins will join the marchers. Jenkins created a pro-life task force in September to “broaden and deepen the pro-life culture” at Notre Dame to help “strengthen the Notre Dame community’s witness to Catholic teaching on life.” One of the task force’s first recommendations was to suggest the University president join Notre Dame students in Friday’s March for Life.

The task force’s creation was in response to the work of a group of students who condemned Jenkins’ decision to invite President Barack Obama to deliver the 2009 Commencement address and award him an honorary degree.

Daly, a leader within the student group that protested Jenkins’ invitation to Obama, said she is pleased with the progress of the task force so far.

“We’re very glad to have Fr. Jenkins and faculty coming,” she said. “This is something we’ve been working to get for a several years now.”

And what about the 88 pro life demonstrators that were arrested according to Jenkins’ instructions?

Well blow me down! So Notre Dame still has actual practicing catholics in it?

I took a little time to schlep downtown and have a look. It went well but with all the cops there you’d have thought it was a G-12 march.

I never use the title “Father” when I speak of Jenkins.

To me he gave up that title when he invoted the baby-killer to Notre Dame .

Wow, I am shocked that he was there. There was a giant yellow banner at the March yesterday that said “Free the Notre Dame 88.” Wonder if Jenkins walked by it? Blocking the streets of Washington = OK. A priest praying for life on ND’s campus = not OK in Jenkins mind.

Jenkins is trying to clean up his image, which it SADLY needs. And he does need to address the 88. tsk tsk. There are many strong, conservative Catholics at Notre Dame.

Maybe he'll run into some of the people that he's presently intent on prosecuting.

"Ohhhh hello.........fancy seeing you here!!"

"Yeees.........small world, isn't it?"

"We'll see you in court, then.......byyyyeee......enjoy the march!!"

This guy creeps me out.

Jenkins is trying to clean up his image

That's sad. God looks on the heart - his image is for man. Until he asks for forgivenness from those 88, even his image, IMO, is still tarnished.
