LDS writer tackles little-known Book of Mormon character

KAYSVILLE -- A first novel for K.C. Grant, 39, has landed this Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints author success in just a few weeks since its release.

"Abish: Daughter of God" (Covenant, $16.95) already has scored a ranking in the top six for books sold at Deseret Book and Grant said a few Deseret Book stores already have sold out of her novel.

"It's fun to have a first novel so well received," said the Kaysville homemaker. "It gives me an inspiration to keep on writing."

Grant enjoyed a successful book signing last weekend in Centerville and has another scheduled for today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Seagull Book in Layton at 448 W. Antelope Drive.

The novel is a mixture of fiction and fact, based on a short account of a woman in Alma, Chapter 19 who did not faint when others were overcome by the Holy Spirit because she had been converted to gospel teachings earlier in her life.

"I think like a lot of LDS people who read the Book of Mormon," Grant said. "Abish is one of only three women mentioned by name in the Book of Mormon and yet there is very little said about her. I wanted to know more about her and possibly other people would too."

First, there is NO more positive way to spend my time than to tell others about what the LDS really teach/believe, my experiences in and the mistake I made in joining the LDS church, and the joy in Christ I found after leaving the LDS church.

It is my prayer that my posts will keep others for falling for their lies.

Second, HOW, HOW, is posting articles from the LDS church own publications “bashing”?? Please explain THAT logic.

Third, your shameless pimping of the LDS owned ‘deseret books’ and PR for the so called ‘charity’ of the LDS church is just sad.

Yeah, they took stuff to Haiti, but so did many other groups and churches and most of them didn’t have a RUNNING PR campaign about it. Typical SOP, anything to make “the church” look good.

Doing good won’t get you back into the presence of God, only accepting the fact that Jesus’ shed innocent blood on the CROSS (not the garden) to pay for your sins will.

Faith in the Jesus of the Bible, not works, saves.

Meanwhile, the BoM is full of claptrap and lies.

- - - - - -
Except of course the chapters that Joseph Smith plagiarized verbatim from the Bible.

The idea that the book of mormon is ‘scripture’ is just a sad joke.

You do realize you are posting to former LDS?

I am not but have more than 100 friends who are and I care for one who is 99 1/2. I think she came across the plains with Brigham Young(just kidding).

Mormons do a lot of great things as do many other “Christians” and their churches. We just don’t have a PR company to help us look good or make it look as if we are in parity with the m oslems.

Didn’t they dump Veronica about the same time they demoted St. Christopher?

Oh who knows. The Catholic Church itself doen’t even know how many minor gods, I mean saints, it “venerates”.

Beside, LDS do acts of charity because they darn well better or their god will be mad.

Christians do it because they are so grateful to God for saving them.

It’s called self-satisfaction.[pan]

Why should you worry so much about what other people believe in? Just ignore them and maybe you can lessen your grief.[pan]

Self-satisfaction = self righteousness. It is this self rigtheousness that keeps almost all LDS (and many others) away from a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. The LDS in particular love to boast about their own accomplishments and 'worthiness'.

Well, I have news for them, their is no worthiness without being washed in the blood of Jesus. It is HIS righteousness that saves, not our own.

Anyone who is a Christian knows exactly why we worry about the beliefs of others. There is nothing more important than sharing the Gospel of Grace with those who don't know or understand it.

Additionally, many of us have been LDS and left because we could no longer stand being lied to, and we have since come to know Jesus Christ and Him Crucified. For us, it is a calling to warn others about the LDS church, the lies the tell, their whitewashed history, and their unbiblical doctrines.

LOL. My research area is on Medieval female RC saints and ‘blesseds’, so I spend a lot of time reading the Vitae.

One thing that has always fascinated me is the dissonance of whom the RC leadership considers worthy of veneration and whom the RC LAITY venerates. St. Christopher is a great example of this.

Gerald of Aurelac also comes to mind, he was canonized because of lay pressure rather than the leadership dictating his sanctity. The popularity of his local cult is what caused Rome to examine him and eventually raise him to the Canons.

Also to earn ‘brownie points’ to become gods themselves.

I do them because I am compelled. You yell help, I step in, assess situation, fix problem and go on about my day never thinking about it again.

It’s insane. Besides imaginary people being made into saints, there is actually a canonized ANGEL! St Michael the Archangel. There are special prayers to him, flattering him with fancy titles and praise (as with all saints). He is the minor god of grocers, for Pete’ sake.

Anything to distract away from God.
