According to Wikipedia (admittedly not the most trustworthy source), what we today call the Sinai Peninsula was named that only after chr*stian (not Jewish) tradition located Mt. Sinai there.
Like the Ark of the Covenent, it seems to be G-d's Will that the location of Sinai remain ambiguous. Else Jewish Tradition would tell us exactly where it is.
