Indeed, when a person is "...stuck on the wrong side of the Cross." they must fawn over their accomplishments (or admire the accomplishments of others) to amplify and elevate the value of those works until they seem valuable enough to merit salvation. This malady comes in a thousand varieties, but it is all the same error...stuck on the wrong side of the Cross. Thanks.
