The Great Catholic Cover-Up
Slate ^ | March 15 2010 | Christopher Hitchens

The pope's entire career has the stench of evil about it.

On March 10, the chief exorcist of the Vatican, the Rev. Gabriele Amorth (who has held this demanding post for 25 years), was quoted as saying that "the Devil is at work inside the Vatican," and that "when one speaks of 'the smoke of Satan' in the holy rooms, it is all true—including these latest stories of violence and pedophilia." This can perhaps be taken as confirmation that something horrible has indeed been going on in the holy precincts, though most inquiries show it to have a perfectly good material explanation.

Concerning the most recent revelations about the steady complicity of the Vatican in the ongoing—indeed endless—scandal of child rape, a few days later a spokesman for the Holy See

Interesting fellow this Fr. Marcial Maciel Degollado.

During his life, Maciel was the focus of several investigations regarding allegations of drug abuse and sexually abusing children. First in 1956, he was investigated for drug abuse, after which he was exonerated and returned as head of the Congregation. In 2005 Maciel stepped down as head of the order and, a few days before John Paul II died, Cardinal Ratzinger announced his intention of removing "filth" from the Church; many believed he was referring specifically to Maciel.[1]

In May 2006, Pope Benedict XVI disciplined him, inviting him to "a reserved life of prayer and penitence"; no explanation was given to the public or to the Legionaries of Christ.

There’s probably something to all this but Hitchens is certainly one who’ll interpreter the evidence in a way that makes the Pope look as bad as possible.

We don’t use the “calling out” terminology here. That belongs to the Leftwingtards. It is an invitation to a literal fight to the death, and as long as dueling is unlawful it’s best left alone.

Isn't Christopher Hitchens an atheist? I think he is, and I also think that he is part of a formal or informal effort to eliminate the Roman Catholic Church. I am, by the way, Anglican, but I suspect that as soon as the Left destroys the Roman Catholics, it will close in for the kill on the rest of us.

Could you imagine a sitting Pope being arrested. It should have happened many times up till now but has it?

Yes, that’s why I say Hitchens is trying to put the church of Rome in the worst possible light. But, you have to admit there’s been a lot of turning the other way and the church of Rome is guilty of some of the worst crimes throughout history.

The goal here is a one world religion and Satan has all his people working on that. I believe the church of Rome, under it’s current hierarchy, is currently the most visible obstacle to that. But I don’t think the goal is to destroy them but to take them over.

What you have doubts about Hitchen’s objectivity? He who spoke so kindly and lovingly about Mother Theresa? He who never, ever says an ill word about Christians or Christianity in general? What a cynic you are.

As to the Legionniares that is far to involved to cover in any response to Hitchens malcontent. Let’s just say any blast at the founder is most likely justified.

Hitchens has a rather peculiar bias in religious affairs ~ he imagines his opinion is required and that everyone wants to hear it.

I think he should stick to politics.

Keep in mind that Christopher Hitchens is the one who said, in reference to Mother Teresa, “I wish there was a hell for the bitch to go to."

Intrestingly his brother, (link) Peter Hitchens, is (like Christopher) a very good writer, but (unlike Christopher) a conservative and a Christian. Long estranged, they seem to be moving toward a wary peace with each other, (according to this very recent thought-provoking piece in the MailOnline (UK), for which I say "Deo gratias."

You have perfectly described the ironically named Christopher Hitchens' modus operandi.

Same sh!t, different day. Got to love guys like Hitchens, who are thrilled to bash the Catholic Church over stuff like this one day, but will turn on a dime and call for homosexual "rights" the next day.

Have any of you figured out yet that these attacks on the Pope are being orchestrated by the homosexuals and their enablers in the media?

Lord have mercy.

Pray for Pope Benedict XVI!

You actually believe an atheist over the Pope who is bound to the truth?

I don’t believe this pope or any other. I don’t believe anyone who claims to be the vicar of Christ. My point is, though Hitchens is painting the truth to fit his anti-catholic agenda, is he completely lying?
