The high number of LDS contributes to the corresponding high rate of usage.

LDS culture permeates Utah. There is very little separation of Church and State there in reality.

Utah IS LDS by and large, and culturally moreso.

Have you ever lived there?

“being your best” doesn’t get you to heaven. Christ does.

And I am trying to get them to see the truth about the lies their church teaches.

So, why did you leave the LDS?

If you had all the answers you’d be God - don’t elevate yourself to that level.

- - - - - -
Don’t need to, the Mormons already to that with their doctrine of ‘exaltation’.

Fine, but Catholics baptize infants, who have no clue as to what is going on during the ceremony.

Isn’t it better to for the parents to “dedicate” their baby, as the Protestants do, and then let the child/adult be baptized when he/she wants to accept Christ’s mandate for baptism, and make a public declaration of accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior?

How would you define ‘child bride’? To me a 14 year old is a ‘child bride’.

To me, anyone under 30 shouldn't get married (they're not really ready for it), but I would prohibit any marriage for anyone under 18.

Never mind that Utah has 15 as an absolute minimum (16 with "only" parental consent), and New Hampshire has 13 as the minimum. Your claim of 14 is pretty tenuous, unless those marriages were in Utah?

And then there is the whole FLDS side of the argument.

Who have been repudiated by the LDS church. Shall we paint all Catholics based on the actions or beliefs of a few who still claim to be Catholic?

Are you LDS?

Nope, I am a Christian who attends - and is a member of - a Free Methodist congregation. And as such, I believe that it is not Christian to lie about or attack others for their lack of faith; rather, we should preach the Good News in a manner that is true to the Words of Christ and inviting to nonbelievers.

I know, being ecumenical and open. I'm such a heretic, I guess I'll let those Buddhists in China and athiests in Belgium and voodoo practitioners in Haiti that I've led to Christ know that I was all wrong, and that God really doesn't love them and doesn't command them to not bear false witness against others, and not to love others as you love yourself, who is a Temple of God.

Wow, where to start. I’m wasting what little time I have left tonight on ignorance, so here’s a link to marriage laws.

http://www.coolnurse.com/marriage_laws.htm

Utah’s marrying age is 16, with consent, unless with a court order, then it can be 15.

Alabama-Down to 14
Colorado-Under 16 with Court order (Like Utah!)
Indiana-15 With permit
Michigan-Under 15 (Hey, lower than Utah!), With court/parental permission

And that list was by no means comprehensive, just enough to show the lie/ and provocative libel.

“The point was that Utah age on marriage was low as a remnant of polygamy.”

The problem with using stupid lies (rather than the more clever ones) is that they’re generally the easiest to look up. That legacy of Polygyny must be nation wide! Oh wait, it’s world wide...

**Last month the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith noted the invalidity of the Mormons´ baptism given their misconception of the Trinity and, consequently, the identity of Christ.**

BTTT for the truth!

That legacy of Polygyny must be nation wide! Oh wait, it’s world wide...

Must be the fault of the LDS for polygamy in Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, most of Africa, Iran, etc...

Wow, Mormons are almost as bad for the world as Ed Schultz and Randi Rhodes claim George W. Bush was!

Hmmm, now that I think about it, I bet the Mormon tradition of polygamy was the direct result of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney messing around with time machines. Probably why Solomon had hundreds of wives and concubines, and why Charlemagne - that Papal appointed defender of Christendom and Church-crowned Emperor - had multiple wives and concubines!

BUSH'S FAULT, I SAY, BUSH'S FAULT!

Ok, last post, really. I still, sadly live in Utah. There is no such thing as separation of Church and State, especially at state level, and it’s legal to establish a state religion, although Utah hasn’t (But the first 13 did!).

Utah culture is not LDS culture, the problem is that the weirdo behaviors of Utahns is so backwards and crazy, people associate it with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Utahns have the added bigotry of thinking their peculiar and strange cultural practices are related to church worship, and they’re not. Utah is a strange place, which has LDS cultural influences, but does not represent “the Church,” just Utahns.

If you want to talk about crazy Utahns, I’m up for it tomorrow or some other day. Since I’m not from Utah, I don’t have any inhibitions seperating Utah culture from Latter-day Saint culture. Just about anyone and everyone who comes to Utah, or meets many Utahns, that is a Latter-day Saint, will generally identify the weirdness right away. Not that Utahn’s are bad, they just do NOT represent Latter-day Saints, nor vica versa. THAT is a common misconception, and a difficult one to override.

That's a function of the State, not the church. For example, in New Hampshire you can get legally married at the age of 13.

Puget, Your criticisms of Reaganaut and the great state of New Hampshire are simple off base. New Hampshire residents under the age of 18 can only be married with parental consent AND a court order (see section 457:6). Like many of New Hampshire's laws, this one dates back to the colonial era. This a far cry from Utah's legal permissiveness toward minor children being traded off into marriages with only a parent's approval. By the way, Utah's marriage age law was amended as recently in 1999 so this is no historical accident. They must still like to get their wives while they are still young and impressionable.

So the State of NH will decide if a 13 YO can be married, but that is not an option in UT. Got it. Thus UT must be Mormon and support child brides, even though they have a higher minimum possible age for marriage.

Give me a break. Surely this is a joke. These folks don’t have a corner on Christ. In Fact they need to stop the organized cover-up of child rape before they start with criticizing Mormons.

Welcome to FRee Republic, n00b...

The mormons critized the catholics first...

Do you consider the mormon doctrine of “first principal” of polygamy, marriage to any number of any age girl and women who already had husbands, which was an “everloasting covenant” abd necessary to enter the mormon after life as OK ???

Do you demand that the mormons stop criticising Catholics and rescind their mormon doctrines which state the Catholic Church and Christian beliefs are an abomination ???

When have you done that ???

Eh ???

Did you know that all the great reformers (Luther, Calvin, Zwingli, etc.) practiced infant baptism? The only people who didn't were the heretical anabaptists.

So the State of NH will decide if a 13 YO can be married, but that is not an option in UT

The one year difference in age is completely secondary to the vast difference in authority.

Thus UT must be Mormon and support child brides, even though they have a higher minimum possible age for marriage.

New Hampshire doesn't allow minors to be married off without a court order, while Utah permits a parent to marry off a minor child. This distinction invalidates your false equivocation in post #44. If you want to trade your minor daughter into a marriage with an older man, Utah is a much better place to be than New Hampshire. Given the two century difference in the age of the respective laws, it must be because people in Utah still like it that way.

Which Christ? The Christ who is Lucifer's "spirit brother" and was born of natural intercourse involving a divinized man who worked his way to godhood?

No, you're right, we don't. In fact, we don't believe in that "Christ" at all.

But we're perfectly within our rights to recognize the simple fact that Mormons are unable to baptize in the name of a Trinity in which they in fact do not believe.

In Fact they need to stop the organized cover-up of child rape before they start with criticizing Mormons.

You need to do a little more reading. Start with this.
