I just received noticed that His Excellency Edward Slattery of Tulsa, Oklahoma, has stepped up and will be the celebrant for the Pontifical Mass at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC on Saturday 24 April.
This is to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the pontificate of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.
Card. Castrillon was originally scheduled.
As you may recall, Bp. Slattery has done some good things in Tulsa. Not only has he welcomed the Benedictine monks form Fontgombault at Clear Creek, but he has written well on matters liturgical for his Diocese of Tulsa.
WDTPRS has written of him with kudos here and here and especially here, when he chose to celebrate always ad orientem versus in his cathedral.
A big WDTPRS OORAH for Bp. Slattery.

Hello Mr Pyro - I just went on a trip to the Basilica two saturdays ago. What a Blessed experience. So anointed! Truly blessed. Its the biggest church in America. I really believe Angels are on charge there. I went on bus trip with the local diocese for 30 dollars what a bargain if I went by car would be several times the cost. So beautiful! Enjoy!

Also if the cafeteria is crowded which it was when I went theres a Quizno 400 yards left of the Church as your looking at it. Just walk down. Ask the guard because that cafeteria has a line for food then a line for a table as your holding your food. Two big lines. Crazy the only downside. If you have a car you will have a better choice to find a restaurant hardly any on foot. God Bless

I think Bishop Slattery is counting the days until he can retire to Clear Creek Monastery, bless his heart. I’m sure he’ll do a lovely Mass for y’all, and he’s the sweetest possible man, loves children and pets.

Fr. Z. has an update on the Blognic plans:
23 April 2010
The Washington DC blognic will be at
The Dubliner
202.737.3773
520 N Capitol Street Northwest
Washington,
DC 20001-1510
(202) 737-3773
One of the participants is going to call to let them know we are descending on them so there may be a room for us.
The Dubliner is located within the Phoenix Park Hotel one block from Union Station which has
DC Metro and Amtrak.
I think this would be best because, I am told, the area around Col. Brooks, also recommended, was perhaps a little rough for people who have to walk.
There may be some live Irish music later. I dont know about Chinese opera.
The Dubliner seems to be just a Metro stop away from Catholic University where the Shrine is.
It is on the Senate side of the Capitol and the Senate wont be in session. That will help with parking. It is not in walking distance of the Shrine, but it is not hard to reach.
Remember: Blognics are not formal. They are not sit down meals. People come and go between the start and end times established (we still have to do that, btw). You pay for your own drinks or food or snacks
. or for someone elses as you choose. No expectations other than to come and meet other people who happen to be readers of this or other blogs.
Other bloggers please participate! This is a blognic, after all.
Will you attend a blognic at The Dubliner after the Mass on Sat, 24 April?
- YES! I will be there!
- What's a blognic?

Unfortunately, my oldest son started coming down with a virus when we got to the Basilica, and by the time we got to the blognic, he was wiped out. So we didn’t stay long and were not able to meet up with anyone. Sorry, I was really looking forward to meeting everyone.
