Yeah. Let me give you an analogy. Many bishops were like that lady general from the national guard who was put in charge of Abu Graib. She was simply out of her depth. THEY were (are?) out of their depth. This is the way it is in war, including spiritual war. Some do not have the graces to cope.

But, yes, the fascists, no matter where they were, went after the Church with a vengeance.

Re-read your history. Clerical Fascist regimes associated with the Catholic Church were in power in Croatia and Slovakia. Franco's Spain, was aggresively Catholic, and had the fascist Falange as its sole approved political party until late in the regime. Some would include Salazar's Portugal, but Antonio was more of an authoritarian reactionary than a fascist (the two are NOT the same). Let's also not forget the close relationship between much of the Church and Benito Mussolini that existed from the march on Rome to the Salo Republic.

Other than Germany, all of the nations that saw Fascist governments were overwhelmingly Catholic.

Agree to the extent your post states the problem is homosexuality. The creation of the class “Pedophile” was undertaken to divert the heat away from homosexuality. The church tried to temporize with homosexuality and the homosexual turned and “ did rend” the church. Sad!

There are a few useful idiots who post thread after thread about this subject that would make Herr Goebbels proud.

Are you referring to me?

I would like to correct my last statement. I forgot the Iron Guard in Romania, which was supported by the Orthodox Church in that country. The IG were the closest the Christian world has seen to the Taliban over the past century, melded together with Fascist ideology.

No! I am talking about those who can’t seem to resist posting threads about Catholic clergy abuse with a mind to destroy the Church.

The Nazis hated Christians. They trumpted up cases that did not exist and used cases that did exist in order to beat up their only real enemy in the 1930s - the Catholic Church in Germany.

Norway was Lutheran. It had almost no Catholics. Romania was overwhelmingly Eastern Orthodox. I think you don’t know as much about history as you think you do. Fascism was a very popular political movement in the 1930s. There were fascist movements in almost every notable country on earth - including Protestant UK, Protestant Scandinavia and the overwhelmingly Protestant US. The simple fact is that there weren’t that many Protestant countries to begin with. Catholics, I guess, were much more successful at establishing viable states and cultures to begin with than their Protestants - if were to use your logic that is.

That’s just Europe where the Church was at least tolerated. In Mexico it was illegal from 1917 to 1970.

“Re-read your history.”

You re-read it.

“Clerical Fascist regimes associated with the Catholic Church were in power in Croatia and Slovakia.”

Nope. Croatia was not a clerical regime at all. The dictator was not a Catholic cleric in the least. And the Catholic Church was not happy about Tiso in Slovakia and demoted him and warned him as well. In both cases both regimes were put into power by the Nazis after the Nazis invaded the countries. These were Nazi puppet regimes. They were not established by the Catholic Church.

“Franco’s Spain, was aggresively Catholic, and had the fascist Falange as its sole approved political party until late in the regime.”

And...? Franco sided with the Catholic Church because he knew it was important for traditional Spanish culture. You seem to forget that the Spanish commies and anarchist scumbags murdered priests left and right BEFORE the nationalist rebellion. Franco wisely used the Falangist without ever really becoming a fascist. He also used the Nazis and Italians. He then used US, the USA, after WWII. Quite simply Franco was a genius who used whoever he had to to preserve Spain.

“Some would include Salazar’s Portugal, but Antonio was more of an authoritarian reactionary than a fascist (the two are NOT the same).”

And Franco was also a authoritarian reactionary rather than a fascist - that’s why we could so easily get along with him even in WWII!

“Let’s also not forget the close relationship between much of the Church and Benito Mussolini that existed from the march on Rome to the Salo Republic.”

No, actually the “relationship” was filled with tension and conflict. I guess you’ve never read Non abbiamo bisogno: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/pius_xi/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-xi_enc_29061931_non-abbiamo-bisogno_en.html

“Other than Germany, all of the nations that saw Fascist governments were overwhelmingly Catholic.”

Except for Norway, Romania - ruled by fascists - and half a dozen other Protestant countries that at least had fascist movements.

And if you believe this problem is unique to the 0.3% of priests in the Catholic Church, then open your eyes to the reality of what is going on your local school district and surrounding community.

While you are fairly unique among Catholics, you are following the WORLD instead of what God says is an abomination. This idea that OTHERS do this to excuse the few in the Catholic priesthood and some Bishops is inexcusable! That argument doesn't work! A crime is a crime and should be punished to the full extent of the law of the country it is committed in, period.

I say the opposite, criticize the Church so it cleans up the mess instead of covering it up and tacitly condoning homosexuality, and let priests get married.

As a side note, read "The Pink Swastika, Homosexuality in the Nazi Party" by Scott Lively and Kevin Abrams.......

A very well researched book about how radical homosexuality was instrumental in the takeover and eventual destruction of Germany..........and how very similar tactics are being used in the United States right now!

Example: A male republican U.S. Representative from Florida writes mash notes to a 17 year-old male page, and the democrat machine goes Puritan 24/7.......all the while the leftist democrats are pushing homosexually on our nation's children daily in the public schools, marching in "gay pride' parades with people who want to make child molesting legal, and funding (with our tax dollars) groups dedicated to the perverse sexing of America..........

The Nazis used the "outing' of many of their critics for political purposes, to appease the family, God and country Germans. Meanwhile, the Nazis were promoting homosexuality in their leadership, ranks and youth corps...............just like the democrats are doing in America today.........

And this has to do with the “scandal” because?
If anything you prove it’s societal and not one group alone.
