Those long silences are just perfect for . . . (gasp!) . . . prayer. The actual prayers found in the missal, private devotions, or even spontaneous (though silent) prayer. In my opinion, that’s something the “OF” doesn’t appear to permit.

I prefer the English Renaissance, but the modern Tavener is surprisingly good. We sing "The Lamb" and it puzzles the congregation, but they like the noise although they don't understand it.
Nothing like beautiful music on a Saturday night!

My excuse is that the "eucharettes" are grossed out by having to place Our Lord on my tongue. One freaked out so badly that he (he was a he, and a newbie) actually dropped the Host (I keep my hands up like a paten, so no serious harm done).
The H1N1 scare did give me an excellent excuse to swap lines to the priest.
Shame to have to be thinking about all this stuff while I'm supposed to be in a proper frame of mind to receive . . . .

Wow! that
IS a useful thing to know!
Somewhere I have my old Creole phrase book (a typewritten homemade item from somebody in Cap-Haitien) but I don't think that's in there!

Don’t ask me where it came from, but that is what Fr.Z calls his little get togethers he has with readers of his blog when he is out and about. My guess is that there were about 90 or 100 folks at the Dubliner this afternoon after the Mass.

That's a huge turnout - lucky you to be there.
Did anybody kid Fr. Z about getting his favorite adjective into the broadcast? I detected a very slight pause before he uttered it = a pause for effect, perhaps.

I would bet it’s what Lewis Carroll called a “portmanteau word”, parts of two words run together - a marriage of “blog” and “picnic”.

I have been told that a priest (or priests) frequently says the Traditional Latin Mass at the National Shrine's Crypt altar or the Lourdes Chapel, but these are informal, not-published-in-the-bulletin Masses.
I would appreciate any information anyone could tell me about how/when to attend one of these Masses -- or how to contact someone who does know the times (either a priest who says the Mass or a layperson who attends).
If you do not want to post on the thread, please Freepmail me.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you for sharing those images! Such a beautiful and magnificent celebration of the Latin Mass .... and with an orchestra. You are most blessed.

Thanks for the explanation. I was hoping, though, that it was some sort of Irish word that I could now add to my vocabulary. :-)

I am sure it is a portmanteau, but I could not figure out the “nic” part. Your guess is probably quite accurate.
BTW, 2 of my sons love to have portmanteau battles, which they call “sportmanteau”.

I wish I would have attended better to your comment. Could have complimented him on his ineffable commentary yesterday afternoon. Ah, well.
