I would bet it’s what Lewis Carroll called a “portmanteau word”, parts of two words run together - a marriage of “blog” and “picnic”.

I am sure it is a portmanteau, but I could not figure out the “nic” part. Your guess is probably quite accurate.
BTW, 2 of my sons love to have portmanteau battles, which they call “sportmanteau”.
