ADL Says Pat Buchanan's Anti-Semitism Unabated After His Remarks About Jews on the Supreme Court
ADL ^ | May 15, 2010

New York, NY, May 15, 2010 The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today called Pat Buchanan "a recidivist anti-Semite who doesn't miss an opportunity to show his fangs," in response to remarks he made about the Jewish faith of Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan and the religious makeup of the current court.

Buchanan wrote in his May 14 syndicated column, "If Kagan is confirmed, Jews, who represent less than 2 percent of the U.S. population, will have 33 percent of the Supreme Court seats. Is this the Democrats' idea of diversity?"

Buchanan continued, "Not in living memory has a Democratic president nominated an Irish, Italian, or Polish Catholic What happened to the party of the Daleys, Rizzos and Rostenkowskis?"

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement:

Pat Buchanan is a recidivist anti-Semite who never misses an opportunity to show his fangs. His remarks about the Jewish background of Elena Kagan and the religious makeup of the Supreme Court are bigoted and unacceptable in a pluralistic society such as ours.

Kagan's nomination for the Supreme Court should be considered on its merits. She is a highly qualified candidate for the judiciary, an exemplary Solicitor General and a great legal mind.

As the nomination process for Kagan moves forward, we hope that all Americans will reject appeals to bigotry and anti-Semitism.

When has Abe Foxman ever been correct? He is one of the biggest anti-Catholic bigots in the country.

Isn't there a rule that all female SC justices have to be butt-ugly ... or is it just a coincidence?

Hey!!Remember I told you the other day that Mr. Kagen's appointing 28 out of 29 appointments to the Law School's staff when she was the Dean might just be the issue that might serve to prevent her approval to the Supreme Court.

It is so typical of liberals,to talk the talk about their goodness and the need for diversity and multiculturalism but never walk the walk.

I read about it somewhere else but I guess that was the information in the column that Pat Buchanan wrote that incurred the wrath of Mr. Foxman.

If I were a Jew, I'd keep my mouth shut.

Glass houses, and all that...

Percentage of Liberal Jews in the left-wing media, banking, entertainment,... ad nauseum.

I'd want to crawl under a rock if I were a conservative Jew.

He’s also succeeded in poisoning Catholic-Jewish relations.

Foxman remains an ardent Obama supporter, in spite of Obama’s stance on Israel.

This reaction to Buchanan's statement is political.

He is also Catholic by religion. I don’t see him complaining about the other nine SC members whom are
Catholic.

Most of the current Catholics are conservatives.

Foxman does not explain why he thinks it acceptable that secular Jews—less than 2 percent of the population—should hold a third of the Court seats. Secular American Jews generally hold cultural values quite different from those of mainstream America. They also have an unfortunate tendency to side reflexively with America's enemies. They have made Hollywood and the TV industry moral sewers and vehicles for mindless anti_Americanism.
By the way, Justice Thomas is Anglican and press reports that describe him as Catholic are wrong. He went to Catholic schools as a kid.

Actually, while Justice Thomas was a confessing Episcopalian at the time of his appointment to the Supreme Court, it is my understanding that he has since returned to Catholicism. He was a practicing Episcopalian for 28 years, however; so while Catholic now, he’s certainly not entirely foreign to Protestantism.

Did he recently leave Catholicism? In 2007, Justice Thomas told Business Week:

I was not a practicing Catholic when I went there (Holy Cross). I had left the church. But I just feel strongly that it's a Catholic school. I'm a practicing Catholic now, in part because I went to Holy Cross.

Foxman is definitely out of line this time. First off there’s no evidence whatsoever that Kagan is actually Jewish.

There is no evidence she is a female either. ;-)

Confirming by example once again the truth of Nathan Bedford's Maxim: all politics in America is not local but ultimately racial.

Only to the degree that Episcopaleans can be considered to be "real Protestants".

Remember, in their own minds they are Catholic ~ unless they're gay of course ~ then they're "special".

Well you’re not and it’s not 1939. We will run our mouths as much as we like :)
