South Dakota Lutherans to consider resolutions on gay clergy { ELCA }

Some of the state's 123,000 Lutherans will gather in Rapid City Friday and Saturday for their annual synod meeting where they'll consider 13 resolutions, including several related to the gay clergy controversy that has dogged the denomination in the past year.

The South Dakota Synod Assembly of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid City. It will be the first statewide synod gathering since the 2009 ELCA Churchwide Assembly voted in August 2009 to allow homosexuals in same-sex relationships to serve as clergy.

Three proposed resolutions will ask the synod delegates to rescind, reconsider or remove policy changes and a doctrinal statement on sexuality that the national church approved. Another proposed resolution will ask the synod to approve a "commitment to unity within the synod."

Seven ELCA congregations in South Dakota have left the denomination since the 2009 assembly vote and another seven are in the voting process to do so, according to officials from Lutheran CORE, a group that plans to start another Lutheran denomination.

The abomination is spreading to even rural congregations of ELCA. Saw one ELCA church in a town in southwest Minnesota flying the “rainbow”.

I am sorry to even ask, but how possibly could a supposed Biblical based church of any kind allow for active homosexuals act as religious?

Have I fallen into some sort of rabbit hole? Aren't Homosexual acts specifically forbidden in the bible in numerous areas? If so, how do you condone active sinners flaunting their sinful lifestyle be involved in the clergy?

Just Asking!

So far most efforts at rebuking the 2009 Assembly have been falling short, albeit by narrow margins.

Chicago has been adament that any memorials asserting departure from the ELCA Consitution's Statement of Faith will be ruled out of order at the next Churchwide Assembly.

The revisionistas are firmly in control.

The ELCA has been hemorrhaging membership since its inception. The powers that be view their stance as an "outreach" opportunity to grow their flock. They truly are clueless as a community as to how to lead by good example and let the willing be drawn to them. In light of their membership I am amazed again and again they don't have the common sense to straighten up. For them religion has become a popularity contest, and I do hope the entire flock leaves them before being deceived.

Yes, as a former member of the LCA and the ELCA, I say yes. They have been digging their own rabbit hole for the last 20+ years. I have left the ELCA. I am still a Lutheran and will die one, but they have gone rogue. Please do not associate all of us with the ELCA. This was driven by the national clergy and not individual congregations.

I suspect they are going to try to stop the hemoragging going on. A lot of Lutherans in SD have left ELCA for LCMS anyway the last few years and with 14 congregations either leaving or in the process, they have to do something.

What I see is that the small town churches are fighting the ‘gay takeover’ while the city churches (Rapid, Sioux Falls, and Aberdeen) are much more likely to be ‘gay friendly’.

Yes, how incredibly sad and, also, finally, disgusting.

By the way I loved your little FR personal page. I am a former Minnesotan and forever Lutheran. I grew up in suburban Minneapolis and worked for my dad as a kid in an upscale restaurant downtown that was a hangout for high-ranking DFL types. I know whereof you speak, and you are quite correct.

Yes, and it’s mindboggling to think this has so penetrated the churches....but I have noted, as with our Government...that the wolves have not only entered the churches but have taken offices of power in order to overturn the standards of Christianity.

Satan is not called the father of lies and deception for nothing...he slithers into the congregations with full intent to destroy the foundations from inside out...and make the church non-effective. That is the plan.

Unfortunately too many Christians are not grounded themselves so they go with the crowd....it takes courage today to stand up against this abomination...I have done so and used the time offered for “testimonies” to call it like it is to the Pastors. Afterwards the Pastor asked me who I was in a demanding sort of way...my answer was “I am servant of the most High God and you are in error in what you are teaching and preaching to His flock”. A little old lady stepped forward and spoke up to the Pastor...” Leave her alone I have prayed for months for this and she gave the answer...she is right and you have been called out”...Ha! So you see I did not win any popularity contests...but those who follow Christ do know the truth when they hear it...and those who oppose it will oppose you...it is the risk and well worth it whenyou know you stand for the righteousness of Christ.

I believe Christ is calling His people to do just that now..today...while we still can...because it won’t be long before we cannot.
