Disclaimer: I am former LDS and "anti" mormonism. I post articles from official mormon sources that often relate to current discussions taking place on the forum to provide a means for open discussion in the Religion forum.

There are discussions ongoing regarding Glenn Beck and his current practice of inserting religion into his political comments. Those who are not familiar with Beck's mormonism may find this article informative.

FROM THE RELIGION FORUM MODERATOR:

Open threads are a town square. Antagonism though not encouraged, should be expected

Posters may argue for or against beliefs of any kind. They may tear down other’s beliefs. They may ridicule.

On all threads, but particularly “open” threads, posters must never “make it personal.” Reading minds and attributing motives are forms of “making it personal.” Making a thread “about” another Freeper is “making it personal.”

When in doubt, review your use of the pronoun “you” before hitting “enter.”

Like the Smoky Backroom, the conversation may be offensive to some.

Thin-skinned posters will be booted from “open” threads because in the town square, they are the disrupters.

http://www.freerepublic.com/~religionmoderator/

Thin-skinned (emotional, whiney or mercurial temper) posters are the disruptors on open threads.

I’d have more respect for them if they didn’t claim to be Christian.

Well, Joseph Smith and Muhommand were quite the con artists. You at least have to respect how they were able to persuade and market their fairy tales.

Although there are many differences between Muslims and Latter-day Saints in doctrine and practice, we acknowledge these differences with respect rather than criticism.

I guess that the Mormon prophets admire the control that Islam has over the people. I suppose that it would be difficult for the LDS religion to criticize a religion that they share so many important doctrines with. That is why they easily attack biblical Christianity.

All the Mormons on FR should read this and realize they need to leave the LDS.

Latter-day Saints recognize the terms God and Allah to refer to the same being in different languages.

Well, let's see: Muslims say Christians are "infidels"; and Mormons say Christians are "apostates."

Same theology there.

Muslims say an "angel" (ex-Angel?) appeared unto an illiterate Muhammad & told him to convert what the angel said into what would eventually become a sacred book.

Mormons say an "angel" (ex-Angel?) appeared unto an uneducated Joseph Smith & told him to convert what the angel uncovered into what would eventually become a sacred book.

Hmmm...

Seems like some "ex-angels" have the same M.O. every 1200 years or so.

From the article: Both Muhammad and Christ taught that even after doing good works, the grace of God is still necessary.

Actually, Christ was directly asked

28Then they asked him, "What must WE do to do the works God requires?" (John 6:28)

Christ then directly turns the matter around, from what WE do to what God does through us and on our behalf: 29Jesus answered, "The work of GOD is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

Besides, Mormons say that grace doesn't even kick in until "after ALL we can do." (2 Nephi 25:23, Book of Mormon)

What Mormon can say he or she has done "ALL" they can do spiritually, physically, mentally, strength-wise, emotionally, soul-wise, relationally? etc.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gladly teaches and declares the Christian doctrine that all men and women are brothers and sisters, not only by blood relationship from common mortal progenitors but also as literal spirit children of an Eternal Father.

Where does he find in the Bible that we are all brothers and sisters. I am a brother to all who have accepted the Jesus Christ of the Bible as Lord and Savior.

The great religious leaders of the world such as Muhammad, Confucius, and the Reformers ... received a portion of God’s light. Moral truths were given to them by God to enlighten whole nations and to bring a higher level of understanding to individuals ... Consistent with these truths, we believe that God has given and will give to all peoples sufficient knowledge to help them on their way to eternal salvation, either in this life or in the life to come ...

(Apocryphal Writings and the Latter-day Saints, ed. C. Wilfred Griggs, p. 29.)

Thanks much for posting this article. It is very interesting.

The mostly absurd comments from the anti-Mormon regulars afterwards... not so much.

As far as the attack posts from the anti-Mormon attack squad regulars go, I invite everyone to read all of them and then do some research on your own from more than one side of the “issues”. Don’t forget to check out the vast multitude of others threads just bursting at the seams with anti-Mormon propaganda. You’ll find all sorts of copy/paste fun as well as tons of off the cuff /sarcasm “loving comments” /sarcasm off.

Is what all these Mormon attack squad people parrot day in and and day out on these boards true? Don’t take their word for it. Find out for yourself. Put forth some effort. You do want the truth right? Prove it.

Read both sides. Talk to both sides. Not just mine. Not just theirs. Make up your own mind.

Here’s a few links to get your started from a different viewpoint. The vast majority of the issues brought up can be found and addressed at http://www.fairlds.org/ I have found but here’s more.

I do not believe we can club Mormons with Muslims. I've lived in Muslim lands and Mormonism is no comparison.

Islam is utterly evil

Mormonism is wrong

That's a big difference. I consider Hinduism and Buddhism wrong and consider Mormonism wrong, however I think they have a right to believe what they want to and to talk to me about their religion as long as I don't force my religion on them and they don't force their religion on me.

With Islam it is different, utterly and completely different

I will NOT make the Mormons and Muslims allies.
