While I am practically banned from “Catholic Caucus” threads - I actually have something to contribute to this... I have been on a sermon series since the beginning of the year through 1 Corinthians. IN chapter 7, I spoke to this subject - some people are given the “gift” of being single. Some may not like or think of it as a gift, but the facts remain.

And further, Paul clearly spells out the reason for some being given that gift - so that they are not unnecessarily encumbered by wife/family - so that they can be completely about serving the Lord.

Paul himself was “single” and given this gift, but only after what some believe was his becoming a widower.

Regardless, some are indeed given the gift of “being single” (should be expressed as being celibate”.

God assigns some of His beloved people the cross of schizophrenia, or autistic-spectrum disorders. Some of His cherished saints can only get through a day, functioning in an apparently normal way, by heroic acts of self-denial and faith.

May we be kind to our fellow strugglers.

Msgr Pope could have gone further and pointed out that these three categories are mutually exclusive. Therefore, someone who is born a eunuch, or made a eunuch by men, cannot be counted among the celibates who choose to become eunuchs for the sake of the Kingdom of God. This is thus a Scriptural basis for banning homosexuals from the secular diaconate and priesthood and also religious life, along with castrati and others who are incapable of contracting a valid marriage.

We all must live chastity in order to enter the Kingdom of God, but only those who can sacrifice the ability to marry are called to consecrated celibacy.
